‘74 911 3.6 value

I have an opportunity to buy a car built for DEs that I would mainly use for my own DE fun, and I’m trying to figure out a fair price.

1974 911
130k on body
Factory sunroof delete
Rear Carrera flares welded on.
Color change to GP White painted by the owner. Looks good except for a wide run on a rear fender lip and some track rash. Engine bay and underneath looks like it was undercoated or bed lined.
Small mirrors mounted to the body in non-stock locations
IROC bumpers and factory bumpers included
17” Fox Fuchs wheels
Koni adjustables, aftermarket sways, larger torsion bars
Big Blacks up front, Brembo rear from a BMW

1991 3.6 rebuilt 2k miles ago with 993 heads, super cup cams, JE pistons
Two oil coolers.
915 rebuilt recently mileage wise, and has 73 RS gear ratios

Lightweight carpet, with sound deadening and rear seats deleted
Bolt in roll bar on welded plates
Wevo shifter
White gauges
Heat, AC, radio deleted
RS door panels
Manual windows

Everything looks clean and well done. It was built in the late 2000s and hasn’t been on track in 6-7 years. Driven on street occasionally.

He’s asking $49k. From all the comps I’ve tried to pull on mid years and conversions and with everything deleted, that seems pretty high to me, which is why I’m here seeking opinions.

The 3.6 makes this car a lightweight monster. Big big Smile. If the build receipts are available and you have or can get leak down data and verify condition of the trans ,your major eval homework is done.

The rest of the evaluation is subjective, keeping in mind that some SC's are in the mid 40's range. You don't mention exhaust,or If the suspension has been updated: control arm ,trailing arm ,spring plate bushings ,etc. That seems to be a question mark.

But all told its similar to my 86 Carrera 3.6 L build.
The "subjective" valuation of my 86 Carrera w 1997 3.6 (ITB's and ECU) is $70K. It's specs are similar to the car you describe, but it does not have carrera flares. It does have everything else you mention including the wevo shifter/linkage/coupler which is attached to the shortened gear set 915 Trans . That pkg.makes for a phenomenal day at the track, in addition to a sweet, albeit serious, street car/grocery getter should you feel the need.Good Luck.

@Betterair, I find it hard to believe your '86 Carrera doesn't have carrera flares....it sounds like the '74 was a narrow bodied (non-carrera) car, so they added SC/Carrera flares, which should match your 79 SC and 86 Carrera, unless I'm reading something wrong.

I stand corrected, I was thinking that Turbo flares were added to the 74,my mistake .
Thanks for the correction.

$49k seems high. But I can’t remember the last time a 74 with a 3.6 came up for sale. I’m going to assume the suspension is built properly with the engine and brakes you listed.
So if cosmetics are all that’s wrong someone will buy it for that price.
Cost to duplicate the mechanics would be $50k

Thanks, everyone. So everything sounds good except for one thing. The 915 is a 7:31 mag case. From all I’ve read, that is not good with a 3.6 and is a ticking time bomb. Considering I want to use this on track, that seems doubly not good.

Try to build it for less, not sure where you are at, but out here a trans would be less then the sales tax and registration.

I’m currently making my hot rod 75 3.6, and I can tell you if it’s done right he has almost double that invested in it. I’d like to see someone build it properly for $49k today. I wouldn’t sell mine for twice that.

I believe the person who is selling this car is (and I might be wrong) @manong_nick on Instagram, he has a lot of pictures / videos of the car on there. I believe the car is still for sale, but the seller doesn’t seem to be in any rush to get rid of the car.
