BaT discussion forum

I mentioned here that I would be creating a forum to discuss BaT shenanigans. That forum is now live. It's super basic but I think it'll serve it's purpose. Not trying to take users from this site or anything. I'm sure some users here want a dedicated place to air what they really think about that site, cars/sellers/buyers/users on that site. Maybe this can be that place.

I suspect you may be putting yourself at risk of a lawsuit based on trademark infringement.

Thanks for the concern. Just the logo? I'll wait for the "cease and desist".

Ha!
Totally off topic. But A friend of mine finally named his Pilsner "Cease & Desist".
Because after receiving two cease and desist letters for two different names it was fitting.
Buxom Blond and Pin up Pilsner were both taken. Craft beer guys are funny...

I’m guessing Southern Star was after him due to the similarity to their Bombshell Blonde?

Perfect encapsulation of BAT in one comment....

Even with its imperfections, this car is pretty much perfect.

Car in question: true mileage unknown, with 163K showing, Carfax with a mileage discrepancy, an accident in the history, no heat, no A/C and sitting on 16 year old tires.

PERFECTION BABY!!

Not to say it's not a potentially good car to own. But comments like these, which are all too frequent on BAT make the whole thing a joke. It's like everyone tries to outdo everyone else in terms of how much fairy dust and unicorn farts they can generate per auction.

Exactly. Much of it is better suited to laugh at than it actually being anything worthwhile for the auction itself. In fact, there should probably be a thread specifically dedicated to all of this useless crap, that would be a thread that never stops giving with all of the useless sh|t commented on each and every auction on BaT. There are several repeat offenders that without even reading their post you know it’ll have no value at all in terms of the car up for sale.

Bot accounts to hype up auctions? I thought I heard it all.

Posted a new thread, thanks!

Cmon Vaive, those are just details!

Those who know filter these comments out automatically, maybe get a little laugh at how dumb it is. It's white noise. Those with more dollars than sense see it as validation of their own opinion and place a bid.

I really think the majority of the comments are written by kids sitting in their parents basement taking a break between need4speed games. That and the "I'm cool too, I used to own one of these, blah blah blah" really has taken the enjoyment out of surfing BaT auction comments for me...

If BaT offers to buy your website, what will you do?

A cease and desist letter is far more likely since their name is a part of it, but it’s probably too inconsequential to get their attention as of now though.

BAT would be much more likely to buy any competing online car auction sites. Or perhaps ebay will buy BAT

That would never happen - too easy for them to get rid of my site or drive all traffic away from it. I think they'd sooner tack a forum onto their site (which IMO is what they should do right now) and kill mine.

If it ever got to that point, I'd do what everybody should do in a "catch and kill" situation and tell them to pound sand. Then change the name slightly.

Hemmings is starting an auction site and I am sure there will be others. BaT has been great for sellers, however there are a lot of questionable auctions/sellers as of late and BaT is either willingly ignoring the obvious or grown to fast to catch the issues. I does not feel like it is the former. Regardless, I think there is plenty of room for competition and here is a link to Hemmings release...

Right off the Bat a $10k max buyers fee versus $5000 on Bring a trailer. Ballsy

I don't see how this is going to be any different than BAT. Maybe better for sellers who specialize in American cars since that is more their demographic. Lots dealers will be all over it of course.
