Should I sell my '81 SC Turbo?

I said I would never sell it....... but you never know.
What is it worth?
Should I list it on BAT?
How is the market for a highly modified SC Turbo?
Does the 930/51 tweak anyone's interest?
Equipment? 1981 SC Steel Widebody, DP Lid, 930/51 to 3.2l, K27 7006 Turbo, DOD, P&P Twin Plug heads, Twinfire Ignition, Ruf Intercooler, Powerhaus headers, Zork, CIS Euro FD, 009 injectors, 044 pump, BLwur, 930 4 sp LSD, Mocal 44 w/fan, LM2, Brembo, Retroair, Euromeisters
I could probably continue as is.....driving to Cars & Coffee and a few shows every year.
Restored and modified 2010 - 2012 , Still as nice as the day I bought it 5 years ago.
Carfax supports maybe 65,000mi. Shows 25,000 which is about right since the rebuild.
What do you think? Comments?

BAT is probably you best bet. Tough to price such a modded car. Need to find the right buyer. Have a feeling you can get in the $40ks by the looks of it. Maybe more.

Should you sell it? Of course not.

However, it sounds like you really just want to know how to price it and where to sell, for when the time comes ;)

Market is likely pretty slim for a modded SC. The market currently wants nice original examples. Somehow, if this was backdated on top of it all, it might be worth more! Markets are confusing.
Certainly would cost more to build than its actually worth imho. So. Price guess? $40-60K maybe? Less than a genuine 930. Maybe in line with a pristine SC value? Add to that rumors of the aircooled market is finally cooling and some stock market jitters.. and impending credit crunch blah blah..

See. keeping it makes better sense!

You've got some nice stuff on the car but its"personalization" will limit its marketability. Can you bring yourself to tone all that stuff down in order to sell it?

I’m interested! :) and in Texas

I don't think a slant, Miami vice example is a good comp either. perfect example of this car's niche as a true comp is hard to nail down.

a couple thoughts-

* if you do sell it you need to bequeath that license plate to the all mighty tuuuurbooo pooowah poobah Raw for his steed!!!

* lastly, IMHO you should remove that turbo decal off the rear deck whether you sell it or not...

Totally agree about the turbo decal. Love the car - hate the decal. Especially with the ‘TURBO’ license plate, this is a prime example of less is more.

Tobs, I already have a pimpin' vanity plate on my bisch - same style as Steve's but reads 09 MPG - gets lots of laughs from peeps, and makes me laugh each time I zip past a Prius, or similar vehicle. :D

I wonder if 11 MPG is taken here in CA?

Yep, was about to post the same link as Marconi.

Modded Carrera with Turbo flares, non-original paint, lots of modifications, accident history. Sold for $62.5k. I was very surprised at that outcome since, like the others have said, I didn't think the market was there for modded, non-original turbos. But there you go.

I agree that any n/a is not a good comparison. but keep the comments coming.
The Turbo "decal" along with the ones under the hood were all hand painted by the PO and have been a hard decision to leave them alone, harming the paint was the big factor.
The turbo plates are fake - $15 online to use on photo day and sometimes at a car show.
I go back and forth on a sale, so many pros and cons.
This is a hard car to value ....butt
930/51 - 1 of 534 USA turbos imported in 1976.
Ruf Intercooler, 7006 Turbo, powerhaus headers, zork
Twin fire distributor, Dual coils, dual 8 pin cdi boxes, Twin plugs
Some might like (some not...)
White powder coat on transmission, fuel tank, front and rear control arms, fan and many engine parts. Blue on suspension etc.
Chrome starter, front and rear sway bars, axles, brake rotors etc...
Repainted original Pacific Blue and still 8 or 9
Interior still excellent shape.
I'm thinking mid 60s to 70 might motivate me.

Looks like a fun car. I don’t see it breaking $60k.

Don’t wear black jeans in that...

I say $50k...

With that interior - and I’ve owned a car with the same white and pipe, just not German - and the fact that removing that badge means paint, I’d be hard pressed to pay 50k. Hopefully I’m in the minority. Suspect the white powdercoat won’t attract more buyers either.

Oddly my Rumf has the same white color scheme for the frame, but that’s period correct for what its aping. GLWS, assuming you stick it on the block.

It is a very fun driver so I may just have to enjoy it for another year or two.....
Heading out to the PCA Autocross this morning to get my weekly dose of speed.

Looks like a car Voitures Inc. would enjoy.
