What's with 993 Cab prices?

In the 964 world cab takes a hit on price, then C4 is another whammy......

What makes this an $80k car? That's approaching 993 Carrera S pricing.

A 964 C4 has a potentially problematic gearbox. A 993 C4 is dead nuts reliable. It’s an improvement, not a detriment.

Last year of production, rare color, low mileage and cherry condition on that example. Feel like it sold over estimate for sure but if that was a Carrera S with the same miles and condition it would bring $110k.

Here's another cab that did quite well today with double the miles as the example above. If this car was a typical color it would struggle to bring much over $45k max.

Good to know. I still don’t understand all wheel drive on a Cabriolet. Not bashing it, just seems like a completely unnecessary component on a car designed for nice weather top down open air driving. How many Cabs get driven daily in the great white north during the winter, or get tracked on any serious level? Maybe I’m just naive! We don't see a lot of Cabs, let alone 993s up here in Maine.

I do. I've been casually 996 and 997 cab shopping for a while now and will only consider a C4. They say we get 300 days of sunshine a year here in Colorado, but when it comes it comes. However, even if we get half a foot of snow, 2 days later it's gone when daytime highs come back up to the 40s or even 50s. We don't get months and months of ice on the roads nor do we get salt or similar treatments other than the major interstates through the urban areas. Out here if they apply anything it's gravel. I don't want a garage queen, but something that I can use as a daily driver where I live. A C4 fits that bill perfectly.

I drove my Boxster year round and while it was great, AWD would have been a nice upgrade. It had the hardtop, which made it 100% weatherproof in inclement weather. I left the hardtop on 4 months of the year, but as soon as Spring hit for real, it came off. I'm hoping to find a C4 with one just so the paint matches and I don't need to go out and find a used one and have it painted.

I've had 4 4's and a TT, all Cabs. Loved them all but the Turbo just go to be too much car for my use.
Never had a problem with any of them. 996's or 997's. Those 996's are the cheapest (best?) Porsches out there for the money.

Cabs

I am surprised on that Cab, great color but common.

Cabs to me ruin the 911 especially in air cooled, no need for 4wd unless turbo cars.
But even then prefer just the GT3 setup. Cabs are heavy, and the top up and down looks very lame, it’s reflected in prices, most only want C2 Coupes or C2S.

Some years was the most Sold was cabs, thus the lower prices, my 91 C2 was only 801 units, many more cabs and C4 configuration

I couldn't care less what a cab looks like when I'm inside the car. I want one so that I can drive top down and so that I can show my two little girls the amazing joy one can have from driving a Porsche. But then I have the luxury of a couple of coupes.

My 964 c4 cab runs Hoosiers at autocross, has trudged through many 1k mile winter road trips with lake effect snowstorms, and everything in between. The discount on cabs and c4 models is hilarious. The gt3/4 cars are my main competition, but none are more fun and definitely not more versatile.

Celebrating 11 years and 50k miles of rev-limited enjoyment. The time spent not driving a fun car, you don’t get back.

#MeToo against trashing convertibles by the coupe guys ha ha, anyway i prefer to drive my cab over the coupes i own. And yes a cab looks only good with the top down agreed. Nothing beats open motoring car and bike alike. Now when going on longer trips for business and time / wife etc, i take a coupe and than have fun to.

Ever drive a CAB nice and hard at an Autocross with the top down? It makes coupe driving almost seem boring.

Yeeeaahhh...I'm going to have to sorta disagree with you on that.

It's all personal opinion, but in my mind Porsche failed to come up with a clean solution to the retracted top, which should have been done by the time the 993 came around. That big, lumpy accordion-looking MFer is a bit of a disgrace by 1995. Always reminds me of this:

^ You're making my argument for me. BMW came out with this solution in 1985, a decade before the 993. On their entry-level car, FFS!

I really love the look of a Ghia with the top permanently removed. I got to run around in this one a few times don’t believe the mileage claim. I’ve personally put more than 500 on it.

There are plenty of examples on BAT of average 993 cabs with decent miles that didn't do any where near what the green or blue car did.
