Values on 87-89 3.2?
I bought my 89 targa a year ago, and absolutely love it. But, wondering how the values might have softened since then (which is what I've been hearing for a bit). I looked at a recent reputable dealer in air-cooled 911's and his prices seemed 10% lower (or more) than what I remember a bit over a year ago when I bought mine..

They were even higher two years ago. As the market has changed the coupes hold value better than the targa or cab. Just enjoy the car, they're not really good "invesents".

People used to buy these cars to enjoy, now they watch their values like its a stock or a mutual fund. Life's short, enjoy your ride. An 89 Targa is an excellent choice. Cab's and Targa's is all I will own. You can't see the stars while driving at night in a coupe.

They have softened a little in general. No worries if you are enjoying the vehicle.

Good replies, thanks! Just looking for some confirmation, as I do see some cars listed fairly high. No, I did not buy the car really as an investment, in terms of something that would grow in value, but I do keep an eye on the market. Now, if this heat in the Southeast will back off, but night drives are good too..

3 years ago I purchased a modded 1988 targa. The market has changed. I was aware before purchasing my car it would take a little longer to sell because it was modded and a targa. If I sell it for what I paid for it I will be happy.
Enjoy the targa. I have owned 2 coupes and find the targa to be the most fun

Yeah, I specifically looked for a targa with a g50 and a really nice low miles specimen. I did understand at the time that targas were not going to hold their value as well as a coupe, but -- because the weather here is mostly good for open top driving (except the very hottest and coldest days), it was hard resist the appeal of the targa (and I like the looks from some angles better than the coupe). Sometimes I wish for a coupe when road is very rough (cowl shake), and the targa is about 100 lbs heavier, but mostly the experience is just "more" air cooled 911.. My next thing to do is remove the a/c, which I estimate is +50 lbs. Already have had done a bunch of suspension work. So far nothing that could not be reversed. I have a bad track record of falling out of love with cars, but this one would be hard to part with (and I've had a few).. I get a buzz from driving it at 30 mph, and I don't make it to the track anymore (busier and a career change)..

Ignore prices until you're ready to sell.
When you do, make sure the ad says "1980 Porsche G50" You will double your money

Do not remove AC if you’re ever going to sell. IMO, it doesn’t impact performance greater than it impacts value.

If you remove the AC components your car will be a lot lighter! But a late model Subaru wagon with a soccer mom and three kids and a golden retriever will still pass you like you are standing still!! Keep the car original!!!
