“Driver” quality, high mileage 964 C4 pricing
Hello all,
I recently had the opportunity to drive my bosses 964 and I’m hooked. Unfortunately I don’t have the biggest budget and would like to budget money for maintenance and suspension modifications. Anyways, how much are high mileage (80-120+k) 964 C4s with a solid body and little to no rust going for? I’m hoping I can find one for under $50k, is that reasonable? |

Yes, get a 964 c4 cabriolet around $40k. Then you have $10k stuffed away for maintenance and suspension mods.

Yeah, that’s what I was thinking. Does a cab drive any differently from a coupe? And also, not that it matters but would I be looked “down upon” for driving a cab as opposed to a coupe?

But, really, what do I know? I’m low on the Porsche totem pole. I drive a brown 77 mid year and a 944. ![]()

You can definitely find them under $50k.
Tiptronic or Cabriolets will definitely be on the lower end of the pricing spectrum. C4 coupes in manual 5 speed will be the ones to get in my opinion.

Yeah, that’s mainly what I’ll be looking for. I’ve heard C4 Coupes are quite good on the track, and the AWD would be nice if I choose to daily it. Thanks for your input!

OP: You think 80-120 is high miles? Not making a judgement or anything. But to me 150K is when cars start getting into high miles territory. 80K is barely broken in for me.
I see Cabs for well under $40K, even in the $30K range. Seems like the discount relative to coupes is massive for these. If you're willing to go for an auto, they're even more seriously discounted, both coupes and cabs. Quote:
2. You will be looked down upon by the cool kids here. In the real world, probably not. So why are they so cheap then? Because generally people don't like convertibles as much they once did. But I doubt the average person person on the street will see you and head to the fainting couch. Last edited by Vaive; 09-16-2019 at 10:19 AM.. |

If you are planning on tracking get a Coupe for sure. Cabs are great value and a unique driving experience with the top down though.

Plenty of cabs in the $40's or even $30's. Ive also seen some coupes under $50k recently. One Targa recently sold on BAT for high $30's i believe.
Just because cars are marked sold in the for sale section here does not mean they sold anywhere near the asking price listed.

Well.. 964s are 25-30 years old. Even at 5K miles a year, that's only 125-150K miles. One could argue that anything less than that is simply an underused car
![]() I'd have no qualms with one of these "higher mileage" examples as long as I could find supporting maintenance documents. Seems Targas and Cabs are still the "cheapest" as all the enthusiasts flock to Coupes so they can live "walter mitty" like experiences ![]()

No need to go anywhere near $40K when something like this can be had for $35K.

IMO cabs and targas do handle differently when pushed to the edge. They exhibit a lot of body flex the coupes do not. There are braces you can add to help but they are no coupe. Still fantastic rides depending on your needs and driving style. Nothing wrong with them but drive one first.
Finding an accident free coupe with only minor issues is not easy when you do expect to spend north of $50k. There are a ton of people waiting and looking for a great buy and they keep waiting and looking. In the end even a good buy will cost you 10-20% than the buy in once you address all the deferred maintenance and other questionable things done by shoddy mechanics and the DIYer who should't touch a screwdriver let alone a wrench.

Forget the 964, you need to drive the 993. It’s so much better all around than the 964. Everyone knows this and those that don’t just don’t know they don’t know it. Yet
If you get my drift. In all seriousness the 993 is 29 more than the 964 and we all know that less isn’t more and that the higher the number the better. Why else would Porsche make the number more? Listen to the Germans because they’re way better at math than we are. Tony |

That's why I keep saying the 912 is better than the 911. Finally someone gets it!

Never ever by a Tip
You will eat it, plus a automatic aircooled, come on Also, never buy a Cab, you in time will be disappointed, but a C2 only, in the long run the best, wait for one |
