Thoughts on 76 Backdate

I'll be reluctantly putting my 76 Hot Rod up for sale on BAT fairly soon. Any ideas on what to expect or more importantly a reserve? If anyone is interested before it goes up send me a PM. 76 Backdate, donor car is a 912E fully galvanized. everything is now 911 spec or upgraded. 23/28 T-bars, Boxster brakes all around. 22mm through the body front sway bar. US spec 84 3.2 with top end rebuild (2010 with less then 500 miles per year) 20/21 web grind cams, Precision turbo set at .5 bar. Rebuilt 915 gearbox (2009) still going strong, new recent backdate with fresh paint, interior, ect. Rear has steel flares, front F/G fenders, hood and bumpers, Lindsay Fuchs, Yes it hauls Azz..... Thoughts from the Pelican brain trust....

Pretty similar to my car that sold several months back for $97k with the exception my car was a 1977 Carrera 3.0 vs 912 and my front fenders were steel among several other small differences. Pic of engine? I’m guessing $65-75k but it’s merely a guess I don’t know how much the 912 factor plays a part

That's a a really nice build with all the right stuff. I am not sure I would part with it because it would be hard to replace plus likely will cost much more to build now then when you put it together.

It's got to be worth at least 65k on the low end. The only thing people might gripe about is that it started life as a 912. I know it shouldn't matter because it's a custom resto-mod but people might hold it against the car.

Best of luck with your sale but if it was me, I couldn't part with such a nice car.

Bob

Thank you both! yeah I'm still kinda on the fence. I know that if i sell it I will probably never be able to replace it, but life is taking me in another direction.

Good looking car. I think you were smart to choose a relatively inexpensive 912/911 body to begin with. This whole 912 thing is hooey anyway.

You just never know. Let’s not forget that 912 conversion that sold last year on BAT for around $165!

Just wanted to say, as a 912e owner doing something similar, this has always been one of my favorite 912es. Sorry it’s time to let it go and good luck with the sale...

seeing you are in no cal how do you get past smog restrictions? I just recently located to a smog exempt county, but as I understand it when selling a smog test is still required.

I've owned the car since the 90's and live in an area which is smog exempt so its never been an issue for me, but correct that selling a car "titled" in Cal requires the seller to provide a smog cert.

Do you live an island off CA or something? I know Catalina is smog exempt

There are actually several areas in Northern Cal which don't require a bi-annual smog inspection. My cars been legally registered for the last 15 plus years.

Thank you all for the feedback! I'm going to go over the car one more time to make sure its tip top, take tons of pis with a few videos so everyone can hear the awesome turbo noises and go to BAT. Will update.

There was a yellow car that sold not too long ago on BAt .. the seller seemed happy with the end price.
Honestly what seemed to really make the difference were his professional quality photos and choice in location, light etc..which really highlighted the uniqueness of the car and gave it great presence.
These kinds of projects seem often are quite personal and if you don’t tell your story the right way It will just get lost on BAt which can be awash with modified 911s.

Beautiful car man. I'd be sad to let it go.
I think it'd bring 80-90k on BaT as long as no stories are uncovered from before your time with it.
BaT can be a fickle bunch but good luck and I'll be watching for it

Thank you. I've owned the car since the late 90's and originally purchased it as a roller 912 with no drivetrain so I'm the only person to ever have it going in 911 trim. If there are stories they would be 4 cylinder 912E stories from the 80's.

All the smart people live in the emissions exempt Counties.
