Opinions on this 72

Just looking for opinions and overall thoughts.

https://ahouseofcars.com/auction/1972-porsche-911-t

Also there's a supposedly good engine and trans in our for sale section.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-used-parts-sale-wanted/1039090-71-72-911-2-4-t-complete-running-motor-trans.html

Maybe buy the drivetrain for now, sell the one that's in it. Or keep the old motor and rebuild...

This car has been splashed around the internet and in some places it was noted that the motor would need a rebuild.

Yea, the auction writes that it needs to be rebuilt. But I mean all that comes down to price.

If I would buy one with a crappy body, I feel I’d be way over market value by the time it was done being restored. Also it’s a 72 so that’s cool to me.

Guys, what do you think is top dollar this should go for? On let's say bat I saw a nice 72 clean with a good matching motor go for 78.5 + fees so about 83K in Cali. I'm in Ny, so Montreal isn't that far away from me. Any thoughts?

There are a lot of little things about that "full restoration" that make me question the big things (paint and body) that have already been done. It's shiny, I'll give you that.

Given that, at a minimum, it needs engine work ($10-$15K), I'd say $30-$35K is top dollar.

Man, I've only been able to find really terrible rusty cars for that price. I'm thinking maybe with our strong dollar compared to the cdn it's decently priced. But yea I'm factoring 10 for the engine for sure. The bat car was not a perfect car but really nice and that was 82k and that's out of my budget honestly.

I don't want to buy a rusted car and put 25K for just the body and paint and I really want a 72.....

This 70 just sold on Bat with a bad motor, I want a 72 but this is close in value. Also the body isn't great on it.https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1970-porsche-911t-23/

The most recent auction on BAT for a 72T was this car, which not sell at a high bid of $58k. This car looks much better than the red car, at least to my eyes, and still didn't hit $60k, much less $70k.

I know I saw that, if anybody here knows if that car is still for sale or what do you think the reserve might have been(speculating). It would have to be at least low 60s since Bat would have used maybe 2k of the fees to cover if it was 60 on the nose.
I feel the red car is somewhere in the 40s. I’m going to throw a bid in late in the game and see what happens.

Looking at the car that has engine troubles. Just mentioning I can in theory buy a drivetrain and slap it in.

Anyways from what I’m seeing, I think something like mid40s is where this car should be. I’ve been stung before with rusty cars and I don’t want to go through that again, so I’d rather fix a motor.

Focus on the car, that's all I'm saying.

Yea, no car is perfect. But I’m trying to work with a reasonable budget. The car in the auction looks good to me for a decent price. If it goes for something decent, I can rebuild the engine over the winter and have something nice to drive come spring time.
