Value of my 68 project?
I’m kicking around the idea of selling my 68L project that I’ve been hoarding for a few years. It will be at least a year before I can get to it so I am considering letting it go and freeing up some money for a 70T I have. I’ve been collecting parts over the years and I have almost everything needed other than the new parts/bushings/etc. required to put it together
Some details. 68L. Most of the car is there. Non matching 68 engine included Non matching Correct 68 901 transmission Needs floors, rockers, front pan, seat pans and shelf, rear quarters welded on. Doors are in great shape. All glass and frames are there. I have original porsche rockers, restoration design floor pans, rear quarters, fenders, hood, decklid and grille etc. Essentially, it’s all there. Just needs the labor. lol What do you guys think on value? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571419316.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1571419316.jpg |
Less than you think is my guess.

That’s kinda what I thought. It will probably be hard to sell for what it’s worth to me. Not because I have some sentimental value in it but because I can restore it myself which is the other option. Sell my 70T and start on this one which would be the much cooler car when finished in the long run anyway.

$5k
Maybe Respectfully Tony |
Well, if that’s the market, I’ll keep it. Not even worth the effort of selling at $5k. The engine and transmission are easily worth $5k alone. I’m pretty sure clean swb quarters and fenders would double that.

$12-15k

It looks like it’s worth more in parts then as a whole. That’s a bummer. I suppose I’ll keep it and see if I can get to it soon.
|
It is worth more in parts, actually that is it's value, parts.
It would be financial suicide to restore that car. If you want a car and not the restoration experience , buy one done. |

Well, if you’re paying to have the work done, I agree but I do all of my own work and have restored several early 911s to date. Some that were much worse body wise than this one. I’ll keep it for a while and see if I find time to get to it.

If sheet metal work is your hobby by all means. The point is if one wanted to do that and sell it at a break even point then you are paying yourself about $.50/hr. If you are going to spend your free time like that regardless there’s no downside. If you do all the work just to get to a selling point for the car it makes zero sense.

put up for sale.."See what happens"
|
I suppose I could do that. If I restore it, I will build what I want and keep it.
|
FYI - My '69 had a lot less rust issues than this. It just spent one and a half years in a shop just getting the sheetmetal and paint........I still have a lot of work to reassemble and do interior.....
As it sits, new owner couldn't pay much more than $5K and ever break even...... |

Thanks Matt. I appreciate everyone’s input. I’m thinking $5k for the roller is possibly correct and $15-$20k for all of it but I’m guessing I would have to part it all to get that. It took me several years to collect all the right parts. I suppose I have that much time invested, I might as well do the work. lol. I’ll start a build thread when I get to it.

Please do. I like watching resurrections.

It will be a long thread to follow but I’ll see if I can get to it this winter.
