Shipping/selling car in Europe

Thinking about taking driving vacation in Europe. Would like to ship either an 89 944 turbo (S) that I have for sale, or 70 911 targa over, drive it for several weeks and then leave it in Germany with dealer or consignment shop. Does anyone have experience with shipping car from east coast to Italy? Experience driving a car around Europe (registration, insurance, etc.). Experience with a dealer in Germany. Feel free to post or PM me. Thanks

If you want a good time with either one of your Porsches and money is not important, have fun, do it.
Nothing is a problem, shipping, insurance and later import duties. just pay.
But if you'r thinking is that either one of your Porsche's has move value in the EU, your are setting yourself up for a mature headache when back in the USA.
Transport, insurance, import duties and in the end handing your car over to a consignment dealer no matter how honest, C'mon. Jjason3131 sincere good luck, sounds like lots of fun, when you have the funds, just do it.
Let us know how it did turn out for you.

That does sound like a fool’s errand. What a waste of time and money. You have to be fully prepared to sell at any price, because it won’t pay to ship them home.

I've driven rental cars in Europe 5 or 6 times.....I'd never drive my 911 in Italy. You have to experience it to believe it.

I narrowly missed a head-on when a clapped out Alfa came WFO around a curve on my side of the road....I dived for the rock wall to the right and he took out the whole side of his car on my back bumper......

As my Police Commissioner friend in Belgium said: Italians are the worst drivers in Europe......I'd also worry about where parked overnight....

UK (including Scotland), Ireland, France, Portugal, Italy, Greece and many more...I've done thousands and thousands of miles in rental cars in Europe, on the left and right side of the road. Hands down the worst were the French in Paris...no rules, no manners, no signals; nothing matters. The Italians drive the fastest and the Greeks have some of the best and worst roads, but the Parisians....omg. The Italians reminded me of NYC cabbies.

I like to say: I'm from NY. I can drive anywhere.

Your idea is a nice romantic notion and could be a lot of fun, but I'd be worried about breakdowns, insurance, transport etc. You may be better off doing one of those Porsche rental vacations you see advertised in Panorama all the time...or just look into renting a modern Porsche for a few weeks. Probably costs the same.

Your other idea just seems like too much hassle.

Good travels!

Nick

I've driven all over Europe, lived in Italy. Its an experience to drive in any of the countries. Their rules are just different than ours, their roads, especially the rural ones are just different.

Its also a great experience, I could share lots of stories.

As others have said, you're better off setting up a rental over there. They've got plenty of interesting cars to rent. Once I rented a killer Peugeot that was an absolute blast.

Funny, last week I got a notice in the mail from the Italian state police. Apparently on my last trip in 2018, when I drove from Florence to Rome, I tripped a speed camera on the highway and they just sent me a bill for 475 euros. Good luck with that one.

Of course I owe money in Costa Rica too. LoL

Go for, rent something fun, or a couple different cars, have a good time, leave the Porsche's at home.

Right, I forgot about the speed cameras. One of them got me in France too on the way to Chamonix. Traffic had slowed down and I didn't know why, until a flash went off on the side of the road.
