1960's 911 or 912 for upcoming road trip

My eldest daughter is getting married in a few monthe time to an American gentleman on a beach in Southern California. My family and I are flying over from the UK for the ceremony and to meet the folks and are going to combine the trip with a 2 week road trip LA to San Fran, then back to LA.

I am on the lookout to buy a 1960's 911 or 912, most likely from CA, to use for the road trip, (I'll be following our main hire car/truck in the Porsche). I'm really looking for a fairly decent 'driver type car' that's solid and will last me for the 2 weeks driving absent too much drama. Afterwards I plan to ship the car back to the UK. Not really fussed about the car being all shiny and such, more concerned about finding something solid, original and genuine that will do the miles.

Iv'e seen a 1967 911 and a 1966 912 that I'm hoping to check out. The plan is to get the eventual car PPI'd, and then after purchase, either get the supplying dealer, or an LA Porsche shop with classic Porsche experience, go through the car ( fuel supply, carbs, ignition, brakes, clutch) and take it for an extended test drive, to reduce the chances of any dramas on the road trip. It would be splendid when we get to LA to be able to just pick up the porsche and smoke around it straight off.

Any recommendations or advice would be most welcome.

I recommend you enlist the services of Techweenie. He’s SoCal based, a straight shooter, and can help on any or all of your needs.

I was thinking 'you're crazy', until Matt suggested Techweenie. He's get it done for you.

Just kidding a bit, but if you're keen on a 69E ROW Sportomatic in light ivory, not so shiny, I could have it on the boat and in CA within a few weeks for Techweenie to fine tune for you. Car is in Japan. Ha!

Thanks for all the feedback and PM's.

I spoke with Techweenie and he was most helpful, but by chance found one myself.

I'm sorted now with a 1967 911.

Congrats on the find.

Wishing you better luck this time since that previous 65 / 67S vin disaster.
