Possible New Purchase
 

To those in the know, I’m looking at purchasing my first 70’s 911. Here’s the link. https://www.apvintagemotors.com/1975-porsche-911-911s-restored-statesville-nc-28677/6754722 I deposited cash but will walk if you guys see anything I’m missing? I plan on painting the car and using it about 7k miles per year. I’m not concerned about speed but just rocking a beautiful old air cooled gem I can tweek to make it mine. All comments regarding thoughts on this possible purchase are welcome. Thx for the help

Hello and welcome to the forum! Regardless of whether you're buying from a dealer or private party, one of the most important things you can do is to get a PPI (pre-purchase inspection) report done on the car. Make sure to take it to an indy shop that is not associated with the seller to get a fair assessment. This should give you a ton of info that'll sway you to buy or walk.

Our community will likely chime in with their expertise as well.

Their definition of restoration is a ways off from mine. The poor panel fitment and shoddy paint work have me concerned about what'll be found underneath. There are much better cars out there for that kind of money.

Agree, the paint finish in some of the photos looks grainy. I'd want to see this personally before proceeding.

I like this car.

If all checks out; it is priced at the right number.

My questions would not be concerning the paint as it can be wet-sanded and further polished.

Given it is a 75, I would be questioning rust.

The next group of questions would be to understand the rebuild of the motor.

Again, I like the car.

Cool car. A lot along the lines about what I was hoping for my own 74 Coupe. The price seems fair and I would further investigate it if I were a buyer. I wouldn’t paint it.

Thanks guys. I hate the yellow. Just my preference. It will be repainted if I proceed. I’m more concerned with the clutch, power train and carburetor replacement

Mechanicals are easy (not cheap). Rust is difficult (and expensive).

I call BS to this statement...“We are a “One Price Only Dealership”. This means our prices are Non-Negotiable.” They’re in the wrong business to have that kind of a motto.

If it were me I would keep shopping then. There’s nothing special or particularly unique about that car. If it’s not the color you want, that’s lot of money to burn on a car that doesn’t really appear that it needs it. Unless you do it bare metal windows out it’s truly burning bills when it comes to resale. It’s not a screaming deal and painting it will not increase the value and may even decrease it.

Agreed. That car needs an expert to go through it before you pay that kind of money IMO.

I see waviness on the lower driver side door at the rocker panel.

Pass door latch side gap widens significantly from the rocker panel to the top. Body damage and/or sub-par rust repair?

I wouldn't think of buying that without first laying my own eyes on it first.

My prediction: The PPI will reveal that this is a $20k car underneath that new yellow paint. It's obvious to me that it's had some poor work done to it over the years. And the 74-75 cars are nobody's first choice anyway, so you're really vulnerable on resale (which matters whether you want to admit it or not).

first years of the IB cars count for something, and the '74-75 cars are gold for those of us in smog states like CA that are looking to build hot rods and not have to deal with smog.

that said, this particular car looks very questionable, especially at that price....
