Question is, will they maintain what made the site successful?

I wonder how much it sold for, and its income and revenue...

I’m not a fan of it, but that site is/was a goldmine for whoever started it. $100 to list and 5% of each sale up to $5000. Easy money haha

I’ve bid on several cars over the years but the prices tend to go higher than I was comfortable with. I had a deal with them to list my Ferrari just recently but my business partner bought it from me yesterday. I think I could’ve gotten more on BaT.

^ Agree. Lack of disclosure (e.g., bid history, seller feedback) is what killed eBay for a lot of people (me included).

Anyway, with the magazine biz in the toilet, it's a smart move for Hearst.

ton of untapped advertising revenue potential. insurance, tires, accessories, etc. Clearly the magazine companies are very very good at that, they can make a lot of money.

Congrats to the founders for executing on their exit strategy. Enjoy the good life!
I wondered who, and when this would happen. I don't think the platform had the revenues to be of interest to most P/E or VC firms. Hearst is a bit of a surprise. But, I thought one of the larger auction houses or other digital media firms would want it (for example Internet brands). Having been on both sides of these transitions, things will change, but hopefully not for the much worse. |

Thank dog IB didn't buy them. They singlehandedly killed internet forums and sent them to FB, etc. They could kill a BaT.

I think the majority of people go there for the cars listed and to look at pictures. I can't be the only one who hardly reads any of that garbage the mouth breathers in the comments spew out? When you remove social media from anything it immediately enhances it and makes it a more pleasureable experience right?

Internet brands.
Perpetrators of vBulletin. Borged a bunch of Popular car sites and run them as commercial ventures. |
