How much??

Looking for some consensus on what a running 3.0 CIS SC motor is worth with 2 known broken head studs (#3 and 4 exhaust). Assume good compression and the motor was verified to be running well on a 15-minute test drive and showing good oil pressure but mileage and history unknown.

So what's it worth as a complete engine including stock exhaust and muffler??

Do a search in the classified section. Plenty of sales to gauge the value.

If I was looking, I'd probably pay ~ $8k if it was truly complete and looked to be in good condition. Knowing that I can do the work myself, couple hundred $ in gaskets, steel studs and misc and back in business for a minimum job.

Smarter would be having the heads rebuilt ($500-$1,000), new piston rings, full set of quality head studs and all the misc seals. Doable for ~ $2k

If you have to pay someone to do the work, probably $5K min. At that point your better off buying a known good engine for $10-$11k

You won't find any there listed as having known broken studs.

I'd say 4k for quick sale

5 or 6 for longer sale

Pretty easy to sell a core 3.0 for $6500-7K. I've sold a couple for that much. Usually a week or 3. I'll buy every one you have at 4K.

Expensive job to repair 30 plus hours, I wouldn’t pay more than $6,500. That said why even buy that motor when for a few grand more you could get one that doesn’t need many thousands of repairs.

Agree with this; I had six broke studs and the car ran great vice oil leaks. You just need to pray the studs did not break off flush. Most of mine had enough meat to grab.

I had a motor that “just needed a couple head studs”. Ended up doing a top and bottom on it. Of course this was in a car that had sat for 10+ years so it was a gamble from the beginning.

I just re-torqued 24 Divalar head studs. Talk about peeing in your pants, 17 actually tightened.

$5K to $8K depending on whether you are selling or buying sounds about right.
