The quality of cars on BAT has gone crazy

With no more live auctions, the museum pieces have all moved to BAT

Funny. I have seen a lot of Porsche's sold on BaT and no matter how good they look in the pictures they never hold up in real life. Could be the acceptance to the norm here as it looks nice but until you see it in person there are no guarantees.

Some of the "patina'd" cars look great with high quality DSLR photos but I wonder how well that aesthetic holds up when you take delivery in person.

I think generally speaking there are very few people that do whatever they do properly. It’s unfortunate but the average or the norm is terrible. Yet another reason why original cars are worth so damn much

Yes, this will be a norm.... but.....

What difference does this have over anything you purchase via the internet via photos?
If you were going to spend a $250,000 on a car would you not go or at least send a proxy to inspect whether it was BaT or off Canepa's or Symoblic's site? BaT seller's offer inspection. This is the buyer's responsibility.

BAT baffles me. I’ve owned or have driven dozens of g series cars and every one is different. Some are great and some are dogs.

Maybe buyers are local and checking out the cars they are bidding on / buying, but the concept of buying based on over processed glamour photos?

It's quite simple. Due to COVID, BAT has taken over the Sotheby's, Mecum, and Gooding segment of top shelf cars. The quality of cars on BAT has gone crazy

Not to be (too) argumentative, but how much of a PPI do you get at a live auction? And how many high dollar cars get sold there?

I've done pre-PPIs on several BAT-listed cars. There's usually (not always) a reason the seller chooses to sell to a distant buyer whose first live interaction with the car is when it rolls off the transport.

Right, it's called the power of the national reach of the internet.
This translates to 1000-fold increase in exposure and demand,
as opposed to the 3 people in your local county community who are looking, 2 of whom are idiots who will never buy anything.
This translates to a much higher selling price. Econ 101.

I can usually tell enough about a car by the right pictures. Most sellers on BaT have learned not to post those views any longer. I would never buy a car from anyone at any price without a lot of research and effort put into verifying condition. Doesn't matter if it is Bruce, Bill or BaT.

Funny, I don’t remember power of national reach from Econ class. Must be a new math concept.

Good lord Matt. You just can't stop yourself; Can you?
You know he's on an internet journey to find something that proves he's right.

I know trolling Sugha is good sport here but when I read his comment earlier today I thought it had merit and was insightful.

His root point does have merit. He just goes so over the top on everything. And he also has my posts hidden, so unless you all quote me he will just scroll on by.
