I don’t want to total up my receipts
until you tell me what the market value might be!
1984 original paint, real 67k miles, books, records, tools, engine service and reseal, cylinder head studs done, completely gone through after 20 years of storage. Everything works and I mean everything and drives like brand new. My seventh 911 since 1983 and I think it’s my favorite. Thanks for your thoughts on market, just want to see if I have tipped the barrel over onto myself, and also to determine what to tell Hagerty insurance on coverage. Pictures are on my smugmug account. https://milepost105.smugmug.com/1984-Porsche-Carrera-M491-Coupe/ |
Here are a few pictures
There is a complete set of photos in the link above, but a few here to give you a general idea.

I have a spreadsheet, you don’t want to know the total.

Thanks everyone for the input. The link sugarwood posted led to a very similar one that sold for $65,000 on Bring a Trailer in November of 2019. It had some panels repainted and mine is all original paint and my windshield doesn’t have a chip in it, but otherwise almost identical. Mine also has the engine resealed with new head studs.
I have totaled up everything and I haven’t gotten upside down yet, but I do have lots of enjoyable shop hours “invested”. Since I started this thread, I have been able to put on a few miles and get better acquainted with this 911. I drove to work today and driving it was so enjoyable I came home the long way. When I pulled up to the garage, I didn’t want to shut off that sweet sounding engine, so left it running and checked the oil level, even though I checked it 20 miles ago. I don’t think the math matters anymore... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1604373001.jpg |
How long have you owned this one?

Some roads are a little rough. But the winding route is so much better than the highway that I don't even notice the extra 20 min. |

This is the first Carrera for me, but 8th 911. 72 911T coupe Gulf Orange, 78 911 coupe Petrol Blue, 1980 911SC Targa ice blue, 1983 911SC Targa (is that Guards or India Red?), 1983 911SC cabriolet, black, 1994 964 cab, black, 1995 993 cab polar silver. I liked them all, but this one drives exceptionally well and it is nice to have a coupe again. I think this one is my favorite of them all though I'm not a big fan of black cars, but they keep finding me. It is the first one I've had corner balanced, so maybe that makes a difference, too. I've driven it maybe 100 miles total so far. That will definitely be changing. |

70-80k easy and its still appreciating . The car checks alot of boxes for the collector . Color , condition ,original paint , rebuilt top end . Very desirable m491 . Great luck with it .

What a beauty. Easily in the $70k-$80k range. Make sure to enjoy it!
