Need help valuing modified ‘87 G50

So I’m regrettably looking to sell my beloved ‘87 that I’ve owned for almost 13 years. I’ve significantly modified the car in a sports purpose manner focused on lightweight,
performance, and drivability. Aesthetically I modeled a 1974 Carrera.

Here is a list of mods ... I’ve done just about everything on this car. It is quite right in terms of setup. Threw a couple of pics in below.

I’ve already got an interested buyer (although I reserve the right to change my mind and keep the car ... current plan is to replace with new GT4). Can you help me assign a fair value to the car?

132,804 miles

- Steel synchros in trans rebuild by Brian Copan BMC & G at 119k miles, New clutch, KEP Lightweight aluminum pressure plate, new G50 clutch cross shaft kit
- Full 996 brake conversion with new front hubs to accommodate OE 996 front rotors, upgraded 23mm master cylinder
- Full Suspension rebuild: All new ER bushings, all new wheel bearing, new ball joints, bump steer kit, RSR 19mm lowered spindles, Tarett adjustable sway bar, Elephant racing custom valves shocks, drop links, turbo tie rods, full corner balance and aggressive street alignment
- Upgraded torsion bars 22/29 mm, hollow in rear
- Carrera front valence
- Bob Stratton duck tail
- Safety Devices roll cage
- J West Rennshift shifter and G50 coupler rubber bushing
- Steve Wong custom 93 octane chip
- Additional outlet stock exhaust
- Fabspeed cat delete (have stock cat)
- Removed a/c
- Heater backdate (have stock parts)
- K&N air filter and drilled air box
- Momo deep dish steering wheel
- TRE 917 style shift knob
- Recaro PP seats, custom leather and Alcantara covering, rennline seat belt anchors and sub strap
- Rennline triangular strut tower brace
- Rennline battery RE-location kit plus lightweight battery
- Aluminum foot rests
- H4 headlights with upgraded relays
- Fikse/Zuffenhaus forged wheels 17”
- Wevo engine mounts
- Magnecor plug wires
- Webcam 20/21 camshafts
- Recent refresh (piston rings, steel head studs, etc) at 131k. miles. Stuttgart Services, Louisville KY. New engine sound pad. Rebuilt valve guides at 88k.
- Euro bumperettes, lightweight Euro bumper shocks (minus bumper shock tow hook), Bosch euro taillights
- Custom interior refinish with carpet/sound insulation
- 996 aluminum spare tire

I think $55K on BaT would be a reasonable reserve. Could see it hitting $65K.

$45K for a quick sale. If you are willing to wait and go through the auction thing, yeah, BaT might be a good option. This car appeals to a specific type of buyer, someone who will appreciate your mods.

Tony,

Do you think you'll recuperate all the money you put into your car ?
I'm in for 60K Cdn dollars with all the mods/upgrades i did on my 89 and i'm hoping that should i ever decide to let it go , i would at least break even ...

I know that you have done a lot to your car over the years !

Hi Phil - I’m not really worried about getting all the money I’ve put into the car back for a couple of reasons ... A) I didn’t keep track (for many reasons), B) I enjoyed the process and did it to make the car what I wanted rather than an investment, C) I know trying to recover the amount is a tough endeavor.

My goal is to get fair value for the car as it stands, and find a buyer who appreciates the mods I have made in that sport purpose pursuit. I’m not in a hurry to sell ... have thought about BaT, but have never gone through a process like that. But it seems like folks think that could add substantially to the purchase price. I weigh that against posting here where enthusiasts gather, if I can get the asking price right. Hence my question. Thanks for the feedback.

Not exactly apples to apples, but I'm preparing to sell my '88 M491 cab...
https://ted7.smugmug.com/Cars/Private-Party-Photoshooting/Amoroso/n-74JfJp/Porsche-911-Cabriolet/

As a result, I've been contemplating different sale venues. Primarily PP, RL & PCA Mart VS. BaT (although I had great luck selling a 964 rear seat delete on Pcarmarket last month, I'd likely go BaT for a car).

As part of my diligence, I've chatted with quite a few folks. The most salient advice has come from a local Pelican that has sold a number of sports purpose Porsches...

"Auctions seem to be the only path to a quick and fair process anymore. I honestly think no-reserve is the way to go as BaT never wants to give high enough reserves to normal folks anyway. Only if you want to sell below market will you have any traction in those other channels (PP, RL, PCA, etc) and kind of a waste of time imo.

No reserve is uncomfortable but you just have to rip the band-aid off and go for it if you TRULY want to sell. Otherwise you will market the car elsewhere for months, get offers you dont want, talk to 1,000 people etc. Then after all that you will go to auction anyway but with a stale car that many have already seen languish in the open marketplace. Also, once on BaT, if they were to give you an acceptably high reserve and it doesn't meet it.... you're back to square one."

I haven't decided on what to do, but based on the above advice, I am leaning towards a no reserve BaT submission. I don't have to sell by any means, but I'd also like the budget and garage space to experience other Porsches.

Your car looks A-mazing btw. LOVE the matching Pole Positions. I just installed Pole Position ABE Classics in my 491 coupe: https://www.instagram.com/p/CIraWdMlUCg/?igshid=1k80pnh8ka4nq

I'll take it.

Really nice, you will regret selling it.

Can't really buy it but that is really nice.
