What's the deal with PCarMarket?

I listed my '87 Targa for sale here on Pelican and was contacted by Pcarmarket who wanted me to list it with them. Once I agreed they turned up the pressure to get pictures and list ASAP. Even had a Pelican member call me on to hurry up. Then came the expected plea to lower the reserve, which I did not. Auction went and reserve came close but was not met. Car then moved to the "deal tank" section. According to the agreement the deal tank period is 48hrs. That was two days ago and my car is still listed. The end date on the ad is 30 days! An automated email I received stated a period of one year! I text them several times for clarification on this and they have gone silent. This is total BS and I'm getting less happy by the hour.
So what is the deal with these guys?

They get someone to PM on every car listed pretending to be interested. You got suckered, that whole site is a scam and has been from day one. They were listing restamped cars early. Just a dealership called Collector Car Showcase in OYSTER BAY, NY trying to gain market share in sketchy and dubious ways. Avoid any call you see from OYSTER BAY, NY in the future.

Interesting marketing approach for a dealer. Live YouTube.

They hounded me too after seeing my car for sale in Panorama. I kept getting phone calls from the guy until I recognized the 516 Area code and stopped picking up.

wow, this is great info. i was considering them as a sales resource because im somewhat convinced that BAT will not list my car as it sits. maybe after as was suggested losing the fiberglass rear bumper for an OE unit, some sort of rocker script and some vinyl accents they might look a bit closer but i remain very skeptical.

check PCM off the list.

So what is the deal with them keeping it available on their site? Is that the scam? They cannot legally sell it after the clock runs out, which it did two days ago. They advertise through the PCA which is where I saw them, I'd think that would be short lived with these type practices.

RarlyL8 12-09-2020 02:01 PM

I loath BaT. Apparently there are no good places for enthusiasts to sell their cars.

NYNick 12-09-2020 02:24 PM

BaT has grown into a behemoth of its own making. You need them way more than they need you. It would be nice to have a business model like that, but you better provide superior service in this day and age, or your customers and the media will rise up and bite your head off.

So far, they seem to be pulling it off and then some. I'm not a fan, but it's fun to watch sometimes.

prolly to make it seem like they have a bigger inventory would be my guess. maybe they keep it up to see if there is any interest and the seller become more willing to deal after a while.

regarding PCA and Pano vetting advertisers? HA! remember how long they ran the motor meister adds long after they had likely been made aware of their shady operation? right about up to the time the place shutdown and was no longer paying for the add space. as long as the checks keep cashing PCA will run the advertisements in my estimation.

Ah yes Motormeister, the epitome of bad practices. Good point.
It seems that PCarMarket may have active eyeballs on this forum as I just went to their site and my car is no longer listed. The only reason I posted here was due to them going silent after being so noisy. All they had to do was answer my inquiries and I'm fine.
BaT just happened to be in the right place at the right time, nothing special about what they do. I guess the buyers are paying a huge premium for bragging rights as the prices of a lot of these cars are just dumb.

Never underestimate the stupidity of the American public.
I could cite specific examples, but my lord, we're chock full of them these days. Take your pick.

My father sold a car on pcarmarket a few months ago and had a good experience. They walked him through the listing process and were a lot more responsive than BaT was for me (sold 2 cars there). Car met reserve and sold. No issues. I'm sorry your experience has been bad, hopefully they can turn it around.

RarlyL8 12-10-2020 06:53 AM

My experience wasn't necessarily bad, it was off-putting that the deal tank verbiage made it looked like my car could be tied up for a month or a year and they went silent when asked about it. A little communication goes a long way.

Try BaT.
#1 place for enthusiasts to sell their cars
Assuming your car makes the cut.
They reject most.

pu911 12-10-2020 08:46 PM

Not a lot of good options these days, everyone wants a good deal and that's all they seem to care about. I sold a BMW on BAT last summer, overall it was a good transaction.

nathanbs 12-10-2020 11:08 PM

BAT is great for selling, seldom great for buying

RarlyL8 12-11-2020 06:55 AM

No thanks. BaT is great for flippers and dealers, enthusiasts (buyers) caught up in the hype are the losers. Some of the pictures are photoshopped, it's just a matter of time before someone comes unhinged and all hell breaks loose. I'll likely sell my car privately.

Sell it here that is a great car for an enthusiast......

Matt Monson 12-11-2020 08:13 AM

List it here.

soundbehindyou 12-11-2020 08:32 AM

So....PCarMarket is not just for PCars anymore......
