What do you look for in a Boxster S?

My first consideration is anything after 2009 because of the IMS. What I have noticed as I am shopping around is that they tend to be equipped equally. I haven't looked at newer models because I am working off a budge of $35K.
If you are shopping for a Boxster S what is it that makes you pull the trigger?

I had an 08 base Tip and it was a fun and enjoyable car. I would say for you to go out and drive it. Look for condition, service records and the owner. Talking to the owner and getting a feel from him/her will let you know how the car was cared for. Another thing is color. There is the usual black, red, silver, grey and white, but something different is nice. My Boxster was Macadamia metallic and it was gorgeous!

The owners of a couple of Boxster S with low mileage, and located at a broker, are very hard to get hold of. One, I heard from him yesterday after waiting for 5 days. He says I must deal with the broker, but the broker doesn't respond to my e mail messages.
Since I haven't heard from the broker on the other Boxster for contact information, I am in limbo.
So far I have posted a help call out to have some in the brokers community to check them out.
The one I am most interested in is silver with burgundy interior and top, so would you call something different?

Is this for your snowbird home in the desert? If so I would strongly suggest looking at the non-S 2010+ For the same kind of money or less. You won’t really notice the lack of power. It’s a solid little car.

Right. And the sound quality? I am not interested in the newer Boxster S that came with the 4 because of the funky exhaust sound. That's important to me.

Sound quality? I’m talking about a 987.2. It’s still a regular six, just a small one. But all the 987.2 get a 6 spd, which is a big improvement over 987.1.

If you can't connect with a seller, keep looking. 2009 and later cars are all pretty bulletproof with no glaring flaws. Find a color you like and buy it. I personally like PDK w/Sport Chrono but others like the 6 speed. Get the car you want.

I just bought an RV after scouring the net for the "right" one for 2 months. The market is pretty hot right now and they were selling fast. Picking it up Monday.

Excuse me but I barely know much about Boxsters other than what years where the IMS issues were resolved by the factory and that the later Boxsters with the 4 had everyone up in arms about the exhaust note.
Okay so school me and tell me what years should I be looking at and what options?

Most of the Boxsters S that work in my budget don't have chrono.
The broker I am looking at has a couple of S but don't have chrono. But the broker just doesn't respond. Hopefully I will get to the bottom of this and find out what the hell is up with this company.
Would you buy an S without the chrono?

2009-2015 with 6 speed or PDK. Sound system is mostly nonsense. Seats are either sport or 6 way w/heat. 18" wheels standard. 1 owner is a plus. There are no "must haves" IMO. I bought the base PDK w/o Sport Chrono and the dealer added it for $1500. Not needed with a 6 speed but it really wakes up the PDK.

I would say your first decision if you are looking for 2009 and up is whether you want manual or PDK. My wife's 2015 Macan S had just about every option. I will occasionally set it to sport to wake it up a bit. Heated seats are a must where I live. Take a look at the Porsche used car locator and you can do a lot of shopping from your recliner.

I was going to say that about the heated seats. I live in Hawaii, but love heated seats. It is great for top down driving in cool weather, but also great for loosening up my back when it is tight.

How would 81k mileage affect your decision?

It would lower the price. If the fluids were changed regularly and the car was well cared for it will still be a great car that *may be viable for 200k miles. My current 2009 is bulletproof @ 72k miles and 50 track days. It does not burn oil between changes so the motor is very robust. A lotta car for around $25-30k.

Picked up a 2010 Boxster S PDK from the original owner his summer. 26k miles. He had the dealer add the Sport/Sport+ functions without having chrono. Saw the ad pop on Facebook and jumped on it 4 hrs later. Got a great deal on a rare color.

I am not a Facebook user but my wife does, so I will see what there is available.
Interesting nearly all boxsters were 2008 and older.
Did you have FB set up so that your particular vehicle you were searching for would alarm when it became available?

I saw the headline ‘What do you look for in a Boxster S?’
and immediately thought “the hairdresser”. Maybe I woke up cranky...

People sneer at Miatas too, until they drive them hard. I've never driven a Boxster, but I have driven a Cayman S. My God, what a sports car!

I find Porsche dealers have higher prices, they are the last ones I look to.
