Value of 930 core
Team,
What do you think the value of a 930 core is today? Has some trick bits including twin plugged heads, twin plug distributor, Koklen intercooler, k27 turbo (I think), aftermarket turbo exhaust. Running CIS. Learning more about engine but apparently built two year ago and ran for a short period before a ticking noise popped up. Engine was dropped and turned manually and caught. That’s the last time it ran. Will have to be gone through. I’d sit on it until ready to build an NA motor (and then part out turbo bits and pieces). See 3.2 long blocks go around 7-9k so that’s what I was thinking is net value once CIS and turbo bits are sold. Cheers, Tom |
I got one a few years ago that was running in a 72 Targa. We took a video of it running, not great, but it was running. I know a couple of the head studs weren't great and sold it needing work. Everyone told me it's worth $25,000. I put it out there for $20,000, it took almost a year to sell and it sold for $14,500.
So the real world price wasn't anywhere near what everyone thought it would be. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Anc92Z3_WeU ---Adam http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1611414235.jpg |
Thanks Adam. That’s a helpful data point for sure

930 engines are terribly expensive to rebuild, any engine that needs work is an unknown and can be viewed as a core. If a freshly rebuilt 930 engine is worth $25K and it costs $25K to rebuild one, well the core ain't worth much.

For what this is worth, I sold one after the Lehman Bros. crash. Bought an 88'930 with rod knock noticeable upon warm up for 1.6 million yen. Dropped the motor, had the crank turned, case machined by hand and new bearings all for good price. Meanwhile I bought another motor from an accident car running for 4k that I put in instead of the motor I had taken out for a cheaper faster sale of the car. I sold the original core all dismantled but complete like that for 3.5k on yahoo auction here start price and only one bid. I always regretted that, selling in the trough. Prices after that went ballistic on cars and parts, yet we may be in another trough. The turbine that went with that core was also k26.
