Pat is a super nice guy, we have enjoyed his car shows and he joined our group for dinner one night.
He also said the corner he most respected on any race track is the Kink at Road America.

Did you ask him about the 912 he owns and drives all the time?

I don’t know him at all. I’ve had passing introductions, and he uses my parts in his cars, but to say I know him would be false.

Nope never came up, is that the green one?
Seen him cruising around in a green Porsche at Reunion.

So it's settled, neither of us know Pat. :D

Are they advocating double clutching every shift?
Seems time consuming and is it really necessary?
My 915 never failed with a 3.6 and big slicks without double clutching.
I've double clutched but only when I've miss timed a shift and got caught in neutral and had to blip it and depress the clutch a 2nd time to finish a shift.

I only do it on certain corners where I feel like it’s needed. Definitely not all the time.

I learned to shift by intuition at age 15 years old and especially 16 in a 68' Camaro. By 16 I'd installed a Mr. Gasket in line shifter which made it hard to miss a shift (had to cut out part of the console to fit it). Still, no one taught me, and down shifting I sometimes didn't even use the clutch if I remember right on the M21 rock crusher with 11" clutch and cast iron bell housing. Fuggedabout double clutching as a school bus driver in college...

This 69E Sportomatic I've got has thrown me for a loop at times though. It's a whole new experience and I have ground the gears a few times, even braked with left foot thinking I was clutching. Then trying to remember to keep my hand off the shifter is another task. Luckily the synchros are all still sweet due to the low milage. Me, rusty and not much chance to drive it, it may take a long time till I get real good at it.

Took my 86 out yesterday..... manual let me get maximum pleasure out of its meager 200 hp..... it was a hoot.

Happen to stop at local Porsche dealership..... not only no manuals only SUVs and Electric in stock.....

Roughly a $20K part with exchange and about 10hr labor for base 991. More if AWD or needing aligned etc.

The track hounds are getting a few, only one street vehicle I think so far. It’s important to get the latest software updates, helps with temperature control and gives generally better drivability.

My wife's Macan S is a 2015. We just had the PDK replaced under the CPO warranty at a little over 70k. The warranty is up in July. Thankfully it took a dump before that was up. In the Macan it's an engine out service so how much in labor? Add that to the $20k unit from Porsche. I'm assuming these can be repaired now or replaced with a used unit if not under warranty. If under warranty they don't even discuss that or try and figure out what really failed. If it fails their testing protocol they deem it "mechanical failure" and replace with new.

I love it. I wouldn't give up my 6 speed in my 911 for now but put her Macan in Sport or Sport Plus and it's a beast. The shifts are mechanical feeling and instantaneous.

Would your opinion have changed if you'd paid out of pocket to replace the PDK?

Of course. I also wouldnt have taken it to the dealership though and probably found a much more cost effective solution.

SA said it's the 2nd one they've done though so apparently not a common failure.

Ian, aka Icarp, is on the tech boards and knows his s**t, he's pulled me from the flames several times.

Matt, and others who really enjoy the pdk, do you ever actually use the paddles? I know there is a mode that once in it requires you to shift using them. I also remember hearing should you go to stop suddenly, if you do not use the paddles, it takes you to first for obvious reasons. What happens if you go to redline-or above, does it shift for you, or does it go to rev limiter? Before answering remember, there's no stupid questions, only stupid people.
