1972 Porsche 911 Targa Value
Thanks for looking at my post! I am throwing out the idea of selling my Porsche 911. I have had this vehicle since I was young and have not gotten around to fixing it up like it deserves. Thinking of selling but might be hard for me for sentimental reasons. Was wondering what people think the value or where to find value of a car like this is.
Its a 1972 911 Targa 1/2 year with the oil fill on the passenger door. The motor is not original to the car it is a 1973 2.4 liter converted to carbs from MFI. I know the back tail and front bumper are fiberglass but outside of that I think most everything else is original! Thanks for your input I am going to attach pictures. The car runs and drives but is not running well I think the carbs need adjusted. It did run well about 4 years ago but I had moved away and didn't drive it for a few years. The gas tank probably could use cleaned out as well as I see rust in the fuel filter. I did my best to clean out the tank but did not pull the tank to thoroughly clean it. Thanks for looking and your input! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Not sure of the value, but Oh! this looks like a Matt Monson dream car! Watch out for his 2 cents, or a PM?

Besides the questions about the health of the drive train, the big variable on these pre-galvanized cars is rust. The fact that you're missing the rocker trim (and the attachment points appear to be missing/covered up) is a red flag in this respect. In addition, somebody has modified the fenders and engine latch panel in an attempt to "forward date" the car, while the quality of that work is undisclosed.
You're going to need to provide a lot more info for us to render an opinion about your car's value. |

It’s a pre-galvanized targa. Put it on a lift and take a dozen photos.

Thanks guys! I will for sure do that. There is one area underneath with rust but other then that in my very unprofessional opinion the car is in really good shape. Drive train is good was rebuilt probably 15 years ago all gears shift smoothly. Any of the body work was done before we bought the car which was 20 years ago now...

Be sure to get inside the flares too.
Nobody is bagging on your car. We could just shout out numbers between $25k and $50k and you’d be no better off than when you started. But if you give us the tools to really assess it, we will. |

Thanks Matt I really appreciate the help! I'm planning to pull the car into the shop this afternoon and get the pictures you guys are suggesting! The Flares are steel I know that. I 100% understand this is not an original Porsche that is why I have had many thoughts on what to do with it long term. My dad has a 66 911s that he brought back from service with him from Germany 100% original! I'm very aware most guys seeking these older Porsches are wanting 100% original. I was lucky we had this to work on together as a child. Body has not been touched since I owned it because that would be a bad idea! We rebuilt the carbs at one point and just small engine projects. I love the car but would really like to have something more enjoyable (less stressful) to cruise around within an hours drive basically.

Thanks Matt! Hoping to do that tomorrow! I very much appreciate people's thoughts as I am not an expert! I know the car is far from factory and that hurts the value!

That car is worth north of $60k all day long. Get it tuned and driving well. There's somebody dying for it.

+1. Also don't pay any attention to those who'll tell you the color sucks, which they will, eventually. It's a great color, even more so with the matchy matchy wheels.

I mean in general, there are some very vocal people who hate brown cars, OP is bound to hear from them.
