Summer 2021 - Real life long hood values?
Here's the deal - it's insurance renewal time, and I'm thinking I need to up the agreed value on my '72 911T coupe. Again.
The car in question is a well-refreshed, driver-level coupe. Not concours correct, nor are all the bits factory or date-matching. It does have the original engine (confirmed by original warranty booklet) which was rebuilt by the PO. Still MFI, not carbs. Original options were 15" Fuchs, Appearance Group, F&R sway bars, Blaupunkt Frankfurt and factory A/C. All these are present and working, although only the sway bars are the exact parts the car was built with. A/C is a full 2-condenser Griffith upgrade, blows cold (vent temps mid-30s at 85° ambient, mid-40s at 95-100°). Completely new interior including dash pad. Aftermarket Recaro seats. I've been watching the auctions (both Sold and RNM cars) and have come to the conclusion that I would probably need close to $90k to replace my car in case of total loss. Does that seem right? ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Who says you need to replace with an identical car it if you crash it?
Insure it for $10k, invest the premiums, and buy a Mustang as your punishment if you total the 911

I'm not worried about me crashing it, but theft, wildfire or getting rear-ended is a big concern. The flip side of this is that if I can't find or make time to drive it more, maybe I just sell it and this ceases to be a question.
Possible, but for now I'll increase the insured value.

My Hagerty premium is roughly $1000 for $71,000 which is way, way low. I just got a quote for $110,000 and it went to $1600/year. Ouch.

$14.00 per thousand to $14.50 per thousand. Not a huge change, but it is counterintuitive that the rate went up for more coverage.

you have to look into grundy. about 2/3 the price for coverage the same as hagerty. i looked into the policy, as did my pops for his classic car along with doing a pelican search and found it was well worth switching. in the search in the tech forum they received high marks.

For coverage here in Oregon, Hagerty was the most expensive, Grundy was better, but still more than others. I went with Leland-West, their cost for $90k was less than others at $70k.

Check out American Collectors, I just insured the 964 for $95K at a cost of about $1300.

American Collectors is who I'm leaving. The $90k policy through them was $300 more than L-W.

I have my 73.5T at $75k. It's mechanically sorted and damn near all original, except with a deteriorated restoration (mostly paint) from the 80s and ugly, but solid undercarriage. Certainly nowhere near as polished as yours, but a serious contender as a "5-10 footer". |

I’m very pleased with Chubb, saved some money (around 30% savings for the same coverage) over hagerty, unlimited mileage.
