Cannot insure classic in Calif.

Someone was going to purchase my '76 Carrera 2.7mfi in Calif. but had to back out because he couldn't insure it.
Have you heard this before?

could have to do with where it would be stored.

could also be an excuse to back out of the deal.

Rodsrsr 09-15-2021 09:32 AM

never heard that one.

Maybe he wasn’t credit worthy.

No issue here with getting collector car insurance although I’ve heard that if the car is being stored in a parking garage most collector car insurers won’t provide coverage.

an MFI carrera is a high dollar car, storage may well be an issue for an insurance company...

He seems to come from money, retired now, but I think he may have changed his mind. Told him of Collector Car insurance but I could only get it under insured.
Anyway we are just speculating but I think he just changed his mind.

Even my $15K 914 has to be stored in a garage for my coverage.

It depends where you live. I lived in south San Diego county and the insurance company said they would insure me but I could only drive to and from Porsche events. No fun rides. Then I moved out to the country and now I can drive anywhere. I went from high theft area to no theft area.

Garaged at a real address is required for Hagerty, they will occasionally stop issuing polices in active fire areas.

Sounds like an excuse honestly,

He finally got around and asked his wife if he could buy a Porsche. We know the answer.
