Other than BAT, why almost no earlies listed on PP?

... been looking for a while because I'm thinking of selling as I'm reaching that stage in life, but don't see many early ('66-'73) cars listed here. What I've noticed are a few project cars. I've had suggestions on price from friends and observers of the marketplace, but out of curiosity, why isn't this group utilizing PP very much?

thanks,

simple really. BAT is bringing huge money, and more importantly greater sets of eyes having $100k+ for a 50 y/o car to throw around than here. BAT also provides some measure of security in not getting screwed or scammed with an add with fake photos and a ghost "seller". Mechanical soundness aside of course. Other social network formats have also cut into it in my estimation with more eyes there as well.

pelican is a sicker bird than it was even 5 years ago. Hate to be a "the good old days" guy, but the degradation is evident across many of the platforms if you look around some.

Mike - thank you. I used to be a member there, but drifted away. I take a peek now and then.

Juan - It seems lots of people are talking about BAT. Lots of +'s and -'s. But, it's something to seriously consider. Thanks

Matt - I'd been looking in there for a while, but didn't scroll down the list far enough in the Marketplace ads. Just found several - thanks. Wow $$.

Been following BAT somewhat closely over the past couple months. IMO it's become completely out of control in terms of selling prices, it's not even funny anymore. As a seller - great! As a buyer looking for a bargain, forget about it.

It's everywhere and crazy to see the rapid decline in internet forums. Competition from Reddit, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Insta. Craigslist is pretty much dead.

I remember when the Rennlist 924/931/944/951/968 sub-forum was so busy posts would be lost on the second page after an hour without a reply. Now it's five days.

BAT, Pcarmarket, Cars & Bids, Marketplace are the new "IN" sites to sell.

I'm considering selling a '73T and 911SC. When the time comes both will go to Pelican first, I have a huge disdain for the auction sites run by flippers (who add no value) and seedy salesmen.

Listed my jeep on CL a month or so back and they now charge $5 to list an add for a month. Not suggesting $5 is a deal breaker, but it requires a credit card and in my estimation that is going to cut down on the bogus adds. Some low life can no longer harvest photos of cars they don't own and plaster them all over CL in an adds in an effort to swindle some dope. They surely still could do this, but at 5 bucks a pop i expect it to curtain BS adds in the long run.

Don't know if the CC on file with CL would aid in helping to identify scammers if reported to CL if you are ripped off. CL prolly don't give two shats.

You are right, the $5 to list a car has killed almost all personal car sales on craigslist. It really annoys me because Facebook's classifieds is so terrible to search on that you basically have to comb through pages and pages of garbage. Extremely frustrating.

That FB app is the worst. And it’s on purpose. Everything they do is to maximize your time on their bandwidth.

I have been looking at newer jeeps and CL is one of the places im looking and there are still a ton of used dealer adds, but the private owner adds show little evidence of anything but legit adds. I was shopping for a quad a couple years ago and id say 70% of the adds were fakes. Got to where I could pick them off in a second. Aside from being ridiculously low priced often there would be no valid contact info in the add, but a phone number imposed onto one of the photos.

IMO the $5 has been a good thing in my recent jeep search not having to wade thru all the crap.

anyone interested in a rock ready 93 4.oL Wrangler?

I advertised a quad on CL and FB a few months ago. The low ballers and scum sucking everyman were inundating me with ridiculous offers sight unseen. Keyboard pickers looking for a sucker deal.

The sale came from a poster who spoke realistic dollars if everything checked out. Turns out he was a quad dealer willing to pay up because of low availability. No BS.

I made money, he made money. Alls well that ends well but man, the anonymous offers I was getting were ridiculous.

You can get a lot more money and not deal with the endless tire kickers, hagglers, and ghosters that occur with a normal forum/CL/eBay listing. Hell, you can now pay BaT to put your photography together so you don't have to worry about taking 200 moderate quality cell phone pics that inevitably will include an errant index finger.

I think I'll try Pelican also if I can ever decide which one (s) to be without. More fun this way to sell the old fashioned way with a personal inspection and drive. I figure if someone is spending 6 figures they can afford a plane ticket. The other way is bringing it to a honest qualified knowledgeable buyer from like minded seller ( me ) if not enough time. Either way costs less than the $5K for Bat and all the photos, set up fees and BS.
