3.0L SC engine Value?
I have a race car that I'm putting up for sale and some of my P friends have been saying to remove the engine and trans and sell seperatly from the chassies. So, my question is, what is a '78 stock 3.0L motor worth these days? The only ones close I have to compare, on ebay, are a 3.0L Euro and a rebuilt one with webers and twin plug (both are pictured below). Mine is pretty much completely stock and it's in the car and runs great. One on ebay is on a stand and, I guess, not testable.
Anyone know of any recent sales? Thanks! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638656358.JPG http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1638656358.JPG |
Sounds like a lot of work! Assuming U R in the US, 165-180 HP. If it was build, as the Euro model, then maybe. Selling a unit w/o the engine will probably be a feat+/-

Rollers take a lot longer to sell.
I sold a takeout 83sc complete from intake and ignition through exhaust for $8500 six months back. It sold in an hour. I probably could have asked $10k and dealt with offers. I just wanted it gone. |
Not sure what "a lot of work" means. To remove the engine and trans? Cars pretty simple, less than 2 hours.
I did see a few rollers, one the same bodywork as mine, sold for in the $11k area, about 4 years ago. And one more recent for $18k that's "similar" to mine. I've gotten the car cleaned up, getting ready for a try on BaT after the holidays. See where it will go. Two local guys are interested but no wires have been sent my way yet. So, I thought I'd put some feelers out. Thanks for the responses with good info. Bob |
That first example is a Carrera 3.o engine, different engine than an SC. But overpriced nontheless IMO. I'm with Matt, around 8500$ for a quick sale.

I’ve been in the market for an engine for a 3.0 on and off for the past year (a friend has a roller he wanted to sell, but I wanted to find an engine before pulling the trigger).
Even at $10k Matt’s engine would have gone in a week. A working and driving 3.0 is a patient $15k sale or a quick $10 - $12k sale. Maybe a little more as Euro bhp. Wish I had known you had one Matt! I decided to buy a complete car in the end, because as you might have noticed, a ‘well used’ roller, and a separate engine tend to sell for more than a complete but well used 911. Also it saved me a bunch of headaches about whether it was all there and saved me all the little stuff that adds up ($50+ transmission bolts for instance). |
