Modified 1969S

Hello,
I am trying to gauge the value of a LHD 1969 911S which was converted to a right hand drive wide body 1974 Carrera 3.0 clone. Car is steel except the bumpers. Door handles and trim is still the original 69 silver and mirrors original Durant. It has nice period correct buckets and RS door panels. It was recently re-painted Grand Prix Whit. The paint is driver good and not a top notch job for show. (7.5 of 10?) It has a rebuilt (0 mile) 2.7 installed which was rebuilt by a reputable experienced builder. It has a 915 transmission. Wheels are three piece 8 and 9 x 15 Fuchs from an unknown source that look well done.
It does not come with any of the original parts.

1) What do you think the value of something like this is in today's crazy market, as it stands?
2) Does the fact that it is a 911S tub increase the value?
3) Does the fact that it is now RHD hurt the value?
4) Does it pay to put this back to a long hood?
5) Does it pay to convert it back to LHD?

Thanks for your input.

- Chris

1) What do you think the value of something like this is in today's crazy market, as it stands?
WAG: $25,000 to $35,000

2) Does the fact that it is a 911S tub increase the value?
No. It is missing everything but chassis.

This car would need a rare one year only 2.0l MFI w/ 901 box, be stripped of wide body and refinished. Everything else can be replaced w/ period or model year correct. Estimated budget $150,000 plus. This would make the car a $200,000 possibility, you can buy a very nice 69S for less. There used to be a thread on earlyS which discussed the one year only features of the 69S

3) Does the fact that it is now RHD hurt the value?

Yes. limited market

4) Does it pay to put this back to a long hood?
No.

5) Does it pay to convert it back to LHD?

No.

To try and answer all 5 questions in a sentence or 2, my thought would be keep it as is, source people in a right hand drive market e.g. AUS where it might come in as is to an interested buyer. It sounds pretty interesting as such, as is. I don't know the value, but maybe get some opinions from down under. Any Aussies around here?

Hi Jonathan,
Just a little....
Installed a fresh 0 mile 2.7 and 915.
Steel front fenders to replace the fiberglass ones,
The aforementioned respray.
I have the Gold decals, black window frames, flag mirror and one piece 9 & 11 Fuchs (I may go smaller to match factory size) ready to have the centers shot gold.

I guess it boils down to:
A) keep it as it is and enjoy it
B) keep it as it is and sell it
C) finish it to be a spot-on tribute of the 3.0 RS as pictured below
D) Put it back to a long hood and install a 69 911S motor and 901/13 trans along with whatever else is missing.

Wild-ass guess! :)

now that's a nice car, why change a thing? my crystal ball did not show me that.

I'm aware of a guy named Freddie that would expect six figures for that had it come from his shop...

I don’t know if this helps any.

https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2508564

This is a rough 69S targa (which isn’t as valuable as a coupe but rarer) that has been sitting at $15k for a while. The seller has recently changed the price to ‘offers’, so probably had no tickles.

Like your car, a lot of the original stuff is missing.

I considered it myself (and if I had the space would have probably bought it), but not for the ‘S’ part, but because I would like a targa. The sloping nose is also something I kind of like, because they are just so out of fashion, I think it’s kind of cool.

You could be tempted to just sit on the car and wait for the price to continue to rise, but I’ve noticed that the original part prices seem to raise right on in line.

So I think the most value it has is as the hot rod it’s been built into and the interesting fact it used to be an ‘S’.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1643427909.jpg

Hope this helps a little.
