Seller On the pelican community

Hey guys I have consistently had good luck buying parts from the Pelican community. I have always trusted it.

My last purchase was a 3 spoke Sc steering wheel.

Seller stated it was a wheel in great original shape and never re-wrapped. Pics showed it to be in good shape.

This is what I received

The seller insists it’s Oem never re-wrapped and It is how leather ages. Leather shrinks! Seam on bottom is thicker and overlapped; seam is crooked. He then went on to say that he has known the car since new and maybe it was repaired. He does not remember. Baloney! Blames me for not asking for more pics.
Surprised he regularly sells here and is deceitful. Fortunately, I paid the 3% PayPal fee and after this experience will continue to pay it.
I am out $80 for shipping. The sellers shipping and my shipping back to him.

80 bucks to be back in shape, out of ownership of that piece. I wouldn't be happy either, but it could be worse, I mean if you still owned the wheel. Either way that sucks! Good to make an example of it here I would think. Did you ask him if Grandma stitched up that wheel, or was it an auntie?

Just another example of in house stitch. Wife did this 69E one for me. She does some leather work as a hobby, and makes intricate stuffs out of leather and sells them on the net too just as a hobby. I didn't tell her what to do, just cover the wheel. She'll do it again one day. This time I want a one piece of leather -- no seams.

I think it's a cheap lesson learned; definitely ask for more pics next time.

I agree out shipping. Annoying the seller insists he is right. Never rewrapped Oem wheel. Seller then ships the wheel and states maybe it was repaired.

Be sure to post to the seller feedback thread in the FS forum. That gets a lot more views than here, though they expect you to name names. That’s how feedback works.

That stitching is not original in my estimation.

always had great luck with part purchases from fellow members,,,,, except a guy screen named tom1342racing or something along that line. bought a "cleaned and tested" on engine oil cooler and some engine tin that did not have heater tube holes for my racecar build. the tin had a bit of rusting on it shown in the pictures, but what showed up had a ton more like he swapped out some of the photographed pieces for some other parts.

Think I'm still salty over this? wait there's more. I'd have not posted this today had it only been the tin pieces. The cooler referenced above since it was going on a fresh motor I did not trust his cleaning efforts and sent it off to pacific coolers for cleaning and testing. they promptly red tagged it for an unrepairable leak. I already had one with an unrepairable leak so I surely did not need a second. He did cover the shipping back, but would not pay for the testing of the failed unit which was sent back to him. Wanted my money back and he would not budge on that insisting he send me another one of his "cleaned & tested" coolers. Guess what? the second one had a leak too but Pac Coolers was able to access the failed location and repaired it. Hit ol Tom up for the cost for the repair of the second cooler and he told me to pound sand. I was pissed to say the least.

I at the time, 2010-ish was very active in the classified selling and buying so at every opportunity I would PM people when he responded to a WTB add and send them the story ive shared here. even kept a gmail draft of it and simply copy and past it to the PM headed to what could be another unsuspecting buyer. Slammed him in the feedback thread and he did not reply once. At 1st when my salt was at it's saltiest I would go to his profile to see WTB threads he responded to and send off my copy and paste PM. F tom1342racer. i don't stalk him any longer spreading the dope on him, but I might next time I bored and the cable is out due to being reinvigorated with saltiness again today...

It appears that there’s only a positive thread, and a scammers thread. That’s dumb. I thought it was just a seller’s feedback thread in general.

The vast majority of folks in the forum aren’t out to scam anyone, the ones who do are quickly outed as there are usually more than one victim.

Always give the other party the benefit of the doubt cause many, not all!, of us are just amateurs and don’t have perfect knowledge of everything so in that spirit that may be the case here, may not saying it is.

Condition is also subjective, but even in the ad, the fraying’s apparent.

Now if the seller’s another ***pick your favorite scammer***, by all means have at it.

I agree most everything has been great experiences. Seats, wheels, electronics, turbo steering wheel, lights, exterior rubber pieces, seals, etc. When I sold H1’s damaged in shipping I just reduced the price.

Fraying on the end I could live with it VW sign on the Hub no problem. Wheel was off his 911 sc..
Yet seller insists i am totally off base. He firmly communicated to me prior to sale that it was never rewrapped. Great!
After delivery its a disappointment and he Insists I am totally off base. I am a Crazy old man.. He has known the car since new and this is how leather ages. Really Bad stitching in the middle of the rim? I asked him to make this right. I said the steering wheel had value and offered to negotiate.

Pmax the seller knew what he was selling…Pmax whats your subjective opinion on the condition of the wheel from the ad description and the pics. A wheel that was never re-wrapped? Factory stitching?

When its a bad transaction lets make it right? We’re kicking a dead horse. Thanks guys I was just looking for some input. Lesson learned ask for more pics and use paypal fees….I will keep looking for a 3 spoke wheel for my 77 911

nixtfy, you are 100% in the right.

That wheel is a disaster, and was not described accurately. The seller's photos don't show how poorly the attempted repairs are.

Yes, stitching isn't factory for sure.

About the VW logo, perhaps someone can confirm this isn't another case of Porsche sharing parts.

Sorry you experienced this, 99%+ of the sellers on PP are upfront with what they are selling. Shame on this seller to state this is anywhere near OEM stitching .

I believe I have VW on the back of two of my steering wheels and I know they are original to the car.

Feel better ??? I was fully aware 924 and 944 shared the same wheels and possibly was a VW part. Maybe sc. I did not care. Problem was Quality of wheel and seller insists he was right. He had no interest in being reasonable.

Just posting this thread worked out for me.
Niditz1 saw the thread and reached out. He had a wheel along with another part and we struck a deal.
Thanks Pelican community.
