BAT needs to be investigated for bid wranglers, but not sure their EULA prevents it. I bought a 911 a fews years back (pre-pandemic) on BAT and paid too much at the time, but relatively cheap today. That said for the next year I could not make a bid without a new account popping up and bidding me up, made no difference what I tried to buy. It is common now for buyers to assert they are OUT after their last crazy bid, I think this is to mitigate the platform bidders.

Simple IP and browser ID fraud checks during account creation would catch the bulk of this, as other large online retailers do, but suspect that the auction aspect motivates BAT.

Quit crying and making up conspiracy theories just because you can’t Bid high enough to win in todays market , bat does check ips and most auctions have a reserve anyways so who would risk selling the car to themselves and losing 5% ?? Up your bids instead of making up stories

No tears, stories, or conspiracy, just observations of bidding behavior before and after buying the first car.

That said, regardless of my bidding experience the idea of bid manipulation is well understood and suspect it might be more lucrative than the occasional fee.

I do not quite understand what you are saying here. Fees are capped on auctions greater than $100,000.

Would this manipulation be to optimize all auctions under $100,000?

From BaT website:

"Buyers pay a 5% fee on top of the final sale price to BaT, with a minimum of $250, and capped at $5,000."

It would be interesting if 'seasoned' owners would
speak up and call out the deceptions to the peanut gallery.

I've called out a couple of shady deals on BAT.
Helps me sleep at night.

Wait, you think the seller is stupid enough to do the bidding themselves? I bid on a few different construction equipment auction sites. I know for a fact the sellers have people running the numbers up. It's not them so it's still considered "absolute" but it happens.

I do that from time to time.
I encourage anyone who tries to do that to expect the peanut gallery to attack you even if the flaw is highly visible.

I called BS on a 2002 tii matching numbers that wasn't matching numbers. Turns out the poor seller had been hood winked by the previous owner.

I kind of felt bad for the guy after the car was removed from the auction.

Finally an interesting thread. The saying a fool and his money shall soon part, kinda sums it up. There's a company on BAT, they were mentioned in earlier post, that uses neon back drops and special lighting effects. It makes everyone jizz! Personally, imo, the best pictures, if you can't see the car in person, are pictures taken outdoors.

I too have been tempted to comment on Bogus cars and parts.. But It seems to me there is no payoff and the pnut gallery is full of fools, jerks and pretenders. Some are probably pre-pubescent.
My experience, BAT is a great place to sell but not buy.
And now it appears to me that there are many that are seemingly careless about hundreds of thousands of dollars for ordinary sports cars.
Thereby Inflating the prices that are bound to correct.
Rare will always have value but ordinary is just that…Ordinary
IMHO

The time honored approach is to not examine your flip car to closely in order to have a large amount of plausible deniability come sale time.

A lot of sellers are also clueless about what they have because they aren’t car people.

True a lot of sellers, and buyers, have little knowledge because they are not car people, and don't do their "homework" ... and I am particularly surprised how that applies to air cooled 911 BAT sellers and buyers. I guess I am spoiled having been part of this community for so many years and the wealth of 911 air cooled knowledge available and shared by the "car people' here. Maybe indicative of a shift in the 911 air cooled customer and seller characteristics and their approach to purchasing and selling.

Anyone remember the day when an airline ticket and a rental car was a good way to PPI?
Perhaps coupled with a local shop to assist?
Electronics are convenient but definitely not a substitute for some.
But as was said before: “A fool and his money are soon parted”

If ever use of "caveat emptor" was in order, it's BaT.

if the quality is there.... they should.

Why would you sell a 4500 mile Ford GT for anything under $400,000 or a low mileage Carrera GT for anything under $2,000,000?

BaT has set the market.
