It’s just the chassis number. There were more than 5000 of them made.

The fourth and fifth digits , 55, indicate it is a US market 911L targa.

Just looked it up in my Technical specs booklet... verified what other guys are saying. It was made just after the 67 production for 68 MY. What's funny is that the 4th digit (the 5) shows it's a US 911L under the 67 production but a 911S Targa using the 68 production number scheme. But... the engine number shows 911 non-S (Type 901/14).

That's what I was looking at.

Edited to say... is that a typo in the book? Someone added an extra 5? Vin is only 8 digits on COA, did they go to 9?

They started the chassis #'s with a 5. Yours being 5022 would have been like the 22nd car made... unless they reserved the first 10 which I think they have before... then maybe car 12.

looks like the Chassis numbers indicate 911S Targa, and the Engine numbers indicate 911L.
WTF!

That's the best I can gather from the 1965-1968 spec book. Porsche changed the numbering system.

1968 US 911L was a 911S... except the engine.
