Time to sell my '69?
Is this a good time to sell my 1969 911t? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1646840302.jpg

I don’t follow the market as much as I used to but I do think there’s a good chance that these things have picked for the near term.
There’s a recession coming in this country, if not worse, and I would expect most values will be affected, except for possibly the real blue chip stuff. |
If you look at historical valuation trends for nice air cooled cars, they only continue to climb year after year. Yes, like anything else there have run-ups then corrections. These cars represent a unique place in automotive time, each model in their own way. Unless you have to sell, I would keep and enjoy it until you don't. Then look at your options.

You gave no background specifics or objectives so only you can judge if it’s a good time to sell. |
pending recession
Javadog - that's what I kinda think, as well. If sold, where to put the money? Pay down bills? Buy a Freedom Bunker? MREs? Gold? Stashing the cash doesn't seem like a good idea with inflation.
I think I'll get some things together and list my German girlfriend for sale. |
Someone should bump this over to the Marketplace discussion forum.

specifics
Chocaholic - I'll be 64 in May. Back issues. No time to drive and appreciate. A couple of minor bills that need paying. The Mrs. has never liked my German girlfriend and won't ride in her. Don't have any social involvement with local PCA or friendly road racing group. Trying just to look good on the slab, so to speak. Want to leave the campsite a little better than when I got here.
I think I'll first post on PP and thereafter on Bring-a-Trailer, if accepted. A week-end project to get pictures and such. Good 17 yr history. Lot's of memories. |
marketplace forum
Cabmando - yes, please. Seems like the better forum.
Moderators - would you please move this thread to marketplace? Thank you. |
Yes, I'll give you $100! :D

It's a great time to sell. Values are high and maybe going higher (or lower) but my guess is higher. It doesn't matter anyway. You get the best price that you can get (and be happy with), take the cash and move on. There's no looking back with stuff like this.
Having said that, you'd do well taking a lot of pictures and giving us a ton of mechanical information so that the people in the know can give you ballpark estimates. You should get a pretty good idea of value before you list the car for sale. You'll also get inundated with PM's. I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't gotten them already. GLWS Nic |
If you have a place to keep it, keep it forever

Looks like a Hot Rodded 69. IMO those are always a tough sell if they aren't an RSR build.
Your choices with the hood lights, roll bar, ect. are going to shrink the buyer pool. What has been done to the car and what are you expecting to sell it for? A car like yours $70/80K range; without knowing the details on the build. |
modifications
The grill and hood lights were a passing fancy many years ago. I always liked the look. The roll bar is bolt-in, nothing for racing. Was a compromise for my wife as she was worried about getting creamed in an accident. She was a passenger as a very young kid in her uncle's MG Midget back in the mid-70s. There was an accident. Nothing serious but enough to give her the fear. The engine is a '67, carbureted. I have the original, numbers matching case, it is fine and goes with the car. I was going to take it to Ollies in Lake Havasu for machining but just haven't. I put RS door panels on as I'm pretty tall and my leg was hitting the door pockets. I have the pockets. Anyway, no big modifications. I debadged just because I liked the look. I have the badges but not the trunk lettering.

it's a decent time to "cash out" imho
caveat: be certain that's gonna be the end of your air cooled ownership journey. |

69 911s T, E or S are headed to the junk pile. My 69 E Sportomatic #0028 will leave me on a transporter truck within days on the 15th (that's the 14th for you). Get rid of it while you still can!

Sounds like it is a good time to sell…based on your personal situation. That’s the main thing.
Best of luck finding her a new home. |
