'74 911 value

ok boys. i'm clearing the decks a bit. i want to get down to one car, my green 911. i have no time to build cars anymore, and it pains me that this one is just sitting. i'd like to get it into someone's hands to finish up, it's a good car.

i have a '74 that is complete less a front windshield and interior. i do have the OG seats, which have some custom upholstery.

the car was originally silver and is down to bare metal, i've removed the sunroof and added carrera flares and addressed any rust issues. marc zurlinden did all the metal work, which includes a new front suspension pan, rear seat pans and parcel shelf, sunroof delete, etc. the front seal strip under the hood still needs to be welded in, but otherwise it's ready for bodywork/paint. straight, no accident car.

i plan to sell it with original hood and bumpers and a getty ducktail. i also have FG bumpers and hood available, as well as a stash of new parts like rear bumperetts, accordians, turn signals, etc. it has the original gearbox and i have a '77 2.7 that it came with that i can include. it's a core but has carrera tensioners and turbo valve covers.

thoughts on market value and what package might be best? i could sell as a roller, but don't really want to get into selling off a bunch of parts. i'm crazy busy these days which is why i'm selling in the first place.

pics when i bought it:

Nobody wants to be first…

You know my car. It needed to be repainted and still have some rust repaired. I got $23k for it as a rolling pile of parts. That was a year ago.

speedster911 03-12-2022 10:24 AM

As a reference point - there is a 74 slicktop coupe for sale locally, blasted , some metal work still needed. Complete with removed motor and trans, interior etc- hasn't sold at 20k ask.

I am trying to see it just have connected with the seller yet so really cannot tell you more about the car.

I think Mats car got a bit of a premium due to the beautiful original color.

It also had early sport seats and 930 wheels.

I got $25,000 for this one last year, complete but needing resto.

I've been meaning to give you a call and ask what else you found that I didn't know about.

The shyster who sold me that turd recently called my shop and tried to buy some parts. I told him unless he was willing to cover my losses on the car, his money wasn't any good here. I still can't believe he let me drive off with that A-arm rusted out and detached like that. Bodyman my arse...

Marc I have one thing to say... DITTO.
I can't even find the time to replace the sunroof seal and service the 930...

If they are only going for $20/25K I'm going to wait see if I have the time and desire after the kids are off to college. Mine will be setting on the lift for another 4 years.

dwelle 03-14-2022 09:42 AM

funny how that works, isn't it?

i just can't let mine sit for 4 years, it needs to get built!

i'm clearing the decks, i plan to move the 914 soon as well. i still have my green car torn apart after wrecking it (again!) last year.

i just want to nerd out on ONE car. i need the bandwidth, i have too many projects and my dad is bringing in corvette projects like mad...

Having a job and two project cars going simultaneously is like being married with two mistresses, no one gets what they want and you're always tired. Smart to pare it back to one.

Hey Marc! Hey Deez! As you know or may have heard, I sold all my 3 cars this year, one in the spring (big regret so cheaply), one in the summer and the last in winter a couple weeks ago. I 'm currently careless and carless, but a good feeling for me for a change! Quite cashed up as well which is good if I get the itch to acquire some screaming deal in the downturn that looks to be on the horizon. I'm not fussed though, whether I want another project car will tell in time. It's all timing for me with house projects first and foremost.

Throw it up on ebay for a good quid, see what happens. Buffalo Bill might be a lead since he likes hoarding classic 911s. Good luck on breaking free! :)

I'm in the mountains now, if I were in the city near the desktop computer I'd post a link to a Queen song I Want to Break Free! I certainly hear that in your voice, your question to the forum.

I have my 2 projects now and you guys are over hear talking about selling your stuff :(

What is taking most of your time away? Kids and kid type activities?

Just asking for future reference :)

Sweet looking shop Dwelle!

Feeling your pain but I’ve not capitulated yet.

I’ve been considering selling the 6-gt vintage race car and maybe a street 6-GT…

dwelle 01-06-2023 05:52 PM

two cars is more than enough for me. our shop is full of all my dad's corvettes, and they all need attention as well. my youngest kid is keen to constantly tear apart his WRX to make it faster. no idea where he gets it from. fun to have that connection.

so, yeah, 2 cars, i'm good. stoked to get this car to john and watch it go. he's close, so i'm sure we'll stay in touch. maybe he'll let me drive it when he's done!... :)
