Selling 964 Turbo - Thoughts on price?

Hello from Maryland. Looking to sell my 965 after 11 years of ownership. Black on Black, 1991 911 Turbo, 91k miles. Clean car, title, carfax. With pricing all over the place, hope to solicit some constructive thoughts on a fair value. Thanks!

Contact cobalt on this forum. He's your man.

^this. Don’t mess with the flippers and tire kickers, and go straight to the nexus. He’s got a list of qualified buyers always on the hunt who will pay top price. Sounds like a furniture ad or something, but it’s the truth.

That's a beautiful car! 20 years ago plus I had a 91 black on black 964. If only it were a Turbo! Any pics of the motor or engine bay?

srated 03-23-2022 10:06 AM

Thank you both. Very familiar with Cobalt but didn't know he trades as well. Maybe I should remove the "clean car" part...

Thanks 911heaven, yes very special cars IMO. Wish I didn't have to let her go. Couple more photos below. Somehow engine bay one dropped off during editing for 10 photo limit. Also didn't want it to come off as an ad.

Here is a link to a current auction on BAT. Looks like you are in the money.

Drool….

Thank you thank you. She's not flawless but quite respectable for 91k, I think.

Black968 03-24-2022 08:14 PM

Just a thought, if you had the original Cup 1's or can get a hold of a set it maybe worth it. They are probably $5K or more but could add a lot more value to someone looking for an original car. Very nice and good luck with a sale.

Funny how opinions change....

There was a time the 3.3L turbo was a bit of a dog and the least desirable Turbo....

No denying its optical beauty....

Good point and I agree. However bit too late now since I just installed new ExtremeContacts earlier this month. The old S02s looked new but had a few years on them. Figured better safe than sorry.

This seems to be the phenomenon with many things. People tend to be biased towards latest and greatest trends. As those age off, the true "classics" bubble up. Eleven years ago I looked at 997s (C2) and no denying it was a beautiful and capable modern machine. Then 993s (C2), again more capability and modern comforts. And finally the 965, love at first sight and bought on the spot. There was nothing else you could offer me in exchange at the time, even now.

As you said optically beautiful, at any given angle. But also untamed and raw. This contradiction is what I think is responsible for its timeless aesthetic. Some people saw it then, others are catching up now.

I have a 1992 Turbo and follow the market on a regular basis.
For the past year or so there have been very few 3.3 964 turbos for sale. A few have gone through BAT.
Currently there are none on Autotrader, BAT or PCA.com.
Yours is interesting in that it has some miles on it but very nice and black/black is popular for this model

PCARMartket even did a video "Where are all the 964 Turbos?"

She looks like a rare clean example despite the miles. Most 964's on BaT have flea infestation with no collar. It is hard to say without knowing more. Any paintwork? Interior appears to be immaculate and you took good loving care under your ownership. Most cars claiming far less miles don't show as well and I suspect odo tampering with those. The biggest issue I can see is the mileage. She falls into the does it need engine/tranny work?? category. Do you have records?

With as crazy and hungry as this market is now you should easily find a buyer. I don't see how we can not be reaching some form of plateau with these but they seem to continue to climb. People are buying anything and everything for top dollar especially on BaT.

A rare colored import recently arrived and offers of $350k have been placed. The low miles condition and color is driving the price. Mileage lack of original wheels hurts you but in all honesty I think you can find a buyer in the $200-220k range all day with these.. $190k will probably get you a quick sale more may take time although having leakdown and compression numbers may help. The 3.6T's are unobtainable and IMO unreasonably priced so most are flocking to the 3.3's these days as drivers.

GL I wish you the best in selling and don't be afraid to ask for more. It is a sellers market. There are many flippers that will try to get you down in price and say $200k is unreasonable, just ignore them.

So do you still have the OEM wheels, clean them up and offer them with the car.

Many thanks for your insight Cobalt.

For sure there are plenty of variables and perspectives to consider. She is indeed very pretty and even immaculate in many areas, but also not a museum specimen by any means. I'm sorting out the details of the sale now and plan to address your questions there. Paint for sure is a big one for many - I've not found any of the common signs of panel repair and repaint. But I'm not an auto body guy by any stretch, just a gearhead with 25 years of casual wrenching. That said, I did have the (plastic) rocker panels just redone as they were showing wear from the highway miles. Other than that the paint is clean and glass smooth, with plenty of deep gloss. Detailing is always a tactile dream with this one.
