GP White Turbo Fuchs

Greetings everyone,

As some of you have seen I got lucky last week and found a local listing for some Turbo Fuchs. My initial thought was to have them refinished for my 77 Project, but after I started to clean them up turns out the are REALLY nice and would be a shame to refinish them. Early 87 date matched 16x7's & 16x9's

At first I was just going to trade them for some correct dated wheels for my car, but after a bit of research it turns out these are going for quite a bit more then they used to! I searched Bring a Trailer and some have gone for moon money lately, so seems like that's definitely the place to post them. I'll probably post them with no reserve as I'm sure they will exceed my expectations, but am interested to know what the community says! If you had to set a reserve, what would your minimum be?
That said I also noticed that in searching through all of the sale results I can not find a complete set of GP white Fuchs has ever sold there? They all seem to be some variation of black/polished so any thoughts on what this white set may go for?

I've never sold on BAT before and want to make sure I can provide as much detail on them as I can...

My biggest question that I would like confirmation on is the brown stuff that I discovered under the brake dust on the back of the wheels. Initially they were fairly black on the inside and started cleaning them with some aqueous solution and a Brillo pad. It took a little scrubbing but it all came off fairly easily when I hit a larger patch and realized that it looked like factory Cosmoline that the brake dust had stuck to. After that I just left the brown and tried to get just the dust off. Can anyone confirm that the factory also may have sprayed the wheels with Cosmoline? If not I've got some more scrubbing' to do!

While they could definitely use a professional polishing, there are minimal flaws with the only major flaw being on one of the center caps~ Posted a few pics below but got a lot more at the following link if you need your fix of wheel porn :)

J, yup, that is factory cosmoline. If you are going to BaT then leave it there. Let the next guy decide if he wants to leave it or remove it. Sure you will get some undereducated questions asking why you left the brown "mud" in place... But they will be backhanded soon enough by the BaT contingent and everyone will be happy.

Best of luck with your auction. Factory white 930 Fuchs are awesome.

Damn i'm local. Where/how did you "find" them? They would work well on my 88 GP white carrera. they will pull in $6-8k on BAT...if you wash off the mud :) haha.

They were posted to Facebook in one of the Porsche parts groups, but they were also listed in the classifieds. They were posted for about 6-7 hours before I saw the listing... I have my ways of searching, mostly involves spending lots of time searching :)

I submitted the details to BAT last night, says it will take a few days before they get back to me but will probably be a month before they are actually listed from what I can tell... hopefully since it is just a set of wheels it won't take quite that long. I figured about the same on the price, although there has never been a GP white set listed on BAT so deep down I'm hoping for a bidding war and a new record sale price for Fuchs! :) Not gonna hold my breath on that one though :D I'll be happy with whatever they go for so listing them with no reserve~

Thanks!
J

Just saw a set sold for $10,750 !

On a side note, is it common to put wheel balancing weights on the outside of the rim? One of my Fuchs has a wheel weight added there and it drives me crazy.

If the wheel is wide (say 7 ~ 9 width) placing a weight along the outside is advantageous for the out of balance spec. However it can be balanced by hiding the weight near center behind a spoke. But generally a performance wheel (wide) is best balanced at the outer portions. If it is a non-serious pedestrian car then hide all the weights that you want.

Form follows function.

Yeah I'm still shocked they are selling for so much! I did see that auction and those wheels were refinished by a well known guru which is why they brought such good money. Other recents sets seem to be going for $7500~

Makes we wonder what these will bring as they are original finish with minor blemishes. Only time will tell! I submitted all the info to BAT a few weeks ago and they accepted the auction, just waiting on my "specialist" to write up a million dollar ad!

Thanks!

They look very well presented on BAT. I would not be suprised if they sell with an 8 handle.

Thanks Charles!

Yeah I would definitely be happy with that! Heck I'm happy they are at $4K :)

Realistically given previous sale prices I figure $7-$8K falls in line with the rest, but given this is only the 2nd set of GP white turbo Fuchs that have been listed in BAT I think they will do well. Not to mention short of very few minor blemishes which I'm but could be 98% taken care of by a professional detailing, they are in amazing condition. I'll probably make a quick video and post it before the end too as pictures don't really do them justice~

Thanks!!
J

Damn the the guy who bought them is a 7 and 9 Fuch collector. He stole those from you looking at other sets he bought off BAT. I'm sure you did ok but........

Matt Monson 07-06-2022 08:37 AM

Way better than the set I sold for a few years ago for $2400.
