Pcarmarket

It is sad that I feel compelled to post this after deciding to not invest any energy in this and just move on from this Pcarmarket platform. After the continued shenanigans I think it deserves some attention.

I bid on and was high bidder on this 964 Cabriolet.

https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1994-porsche-964-cabriolet/

I saw the car in person the evening before the auction ended. I posted my findings so that it was a level playing field and everyone knew of minor and not so minor issues with the car.

My findings were as follows: Lots of oil on bottom of engine. Right side upper and lower valve covers leaking. Oil sitting on top of right side heat exchanger. Corrosion under battery and along front of frunk side to side. I noticed frunk drain plugs were plugged with white powdery substance. Fuel door on left fender was not sitting flush with fender. This fender was allegedly replaced and appears fuel door never adjusted properly. Ash tray would not close. Clamshell shroud over steering column was not aligned and fitted up properly. Yes, last two items are nitpicky minor things.

After I was high bid with reserve not met I went to sellers house later that afternoon to see about actually driving the car if we could come to agreement on price. He said that the owner (who he was consigning car for) was told that this is a $60k car and had to convince her to set reserve at $55k and she adamantly would not budge from that price. When I realized we weren’t going to come to an agreement on price I told him to have owner contact me if the car doesn’t sell for the month that it sits in the Deal tank. My offer would still stand at that point in time.

Later that night I jump on Pcarmarket to add some additional info on the car that the seller and I found looking through the paperwork. Tires are 8 or 9 years old and last valve adjustment was 14,000 miles ago. That’s $2,500 in maintenance required right away.

The next morning I received an email from Pcarmarket saying that I have been banned for trying to buy a car against Pcar policy outside of their platform. They then delete all of my comments identifying potential issues with the car so as to sanitize the listing for the seller. I bought an e28 earlier this year through Pcarmarket and had a great experience. That deal and my attempts at buying this car were both honest and above board. Pcarmarket never gave me an opportunity to share my side of the story before banning me and sanitizing my posts from the auction.

Since then a few folks have made posts inquiring about the missing in-person inspection details from this listing. Those have gone unanswered by Pcarmarket, and I noticed this evening that all of those posts have since been deleted from the listing as well. Fortunately I have screenshots which I will share here.

The seller calls me a dishonorable individual, however this is the same guy who used to own his own Porsche repair and parts shop. I took my old 964 to him once. He knows these cars well and should have included these details in the original listing. At the very least he should have asked Pcarmarket to edit the DT listing with my comments on the car to provide full disclosure. That would have been the honest thing to do. He’s had over 3 weeks to do that. Bottom line, he was pissed that I called attention to some issues with the car and it didn’t sell for what he expected. He then took revenge against me and had Pcarmarket ban me and wipe out my comments. I’ll let you guys decide who was dishonest in this situation.

I was going to ignore this whole thing and move on entirely from this seller and Pcarmarket, however this is to the point that I don’t feel right not alerting the community of the business practices I witnessed here by the seller and Pcarmarket.

I’ll post screenshots of the comments from the community that have lsince been deleted. I’ll also add car VIN number so potential buyers can find this thread if they do a search. WP0CB296XRS460195

Rule 1. Auction sites exist to make money. Rule 2. They will do whatever they need to do to protect rule 1.

Glad to see they did the right thing. Unfortunately they waited for the Deal Tank listing to expire before making the correction. They also neglected my comment regarding the car needing new tires and a valve adjustment.

If the car is misrepresented that's one thing, but overall I would be highly annoyed with someone nitpicking my 30 year old car in the comments to drive down price and scare off other buyers.

If you don't want to be nit-picked then fix it. If not disclose it.
All the information the op brought up should have been discussed in the comments. The seller can add pictures and discuss if it is actually nit-picking

Totally agree with this statement, and would add that Pelican's "no comment" policy in its Cars For Sale section is a disservice to this site and its members.

These online auction sites give sellers the opportunity to make full price on a not so perfect car or worse. There will always be sellers/consigners willing to not go full disclosure when a could be hefty profit/commission is on the table. I like looking at BAT and PCmarket but no way I’m buying without a PPI.
Can’t remember who recommended a PPI, oh yeah, I remember, like everyone.

Everyone should go on there and Like Pnuts inspection comment now that they have put it back on there. Not shocking to see this though, PCarmarket is only interested in money and looks like they are willing to cover up issues to make that money.

I always figured they were getting away from what they set out to be when PCar turned into anything we can sell market.

This proves my point. https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/dealtank-vintage-original-double-sided-coca-cola-lollipop-sign/
