Ballpark 3.2 price?

Hi Gang

Im researching the option of selling my air cooled
I know…I know…but may wanna unlock the win of having bought years ago and try some H2O cooled options

Car is 85 targa with 110k miles
3 owner - ALL original. No repaints whatsoever but stone chips and nicks with one quarter size ding

Perfect maintenance with all records back to window sticker. AC and radio pulled but packaged with car as well as original struts and sugar scoops

Any thoughts in price? Did air cooled market cool with recent overall cooling?

Also Im in Canada so any Canucks who wanna chime in - I know our smaller market usually = fee extra bucks

Thanks Pelican. Wont be selling til fall, if I do, but appreciate the help with my decision

That is one nice looking Targa.

I've recommended this before; you can do a drill down search on BAT for all the '85 Targas sold and it will illustrate a price scatter plot. You can use eliminating words to refine the search. Then you will see the price trend with a spread between the low and high. It's a pretty nice tool, but remember, despite what the boosters say, BAT isn't the market, just a market.

Edit: I see you're already on it....

I'm gonna get on it but that chart sounds excellently helpful. Thanks!

And thanks on the car - it's a lovely car. I've put on over half the miles and mostly long highway cruises across country etc so low impact.

That is nice! BAT bidders should go nuts for an original paint car in that color.
Make sure to include paint meter reading photos.

Here's one I did a while back just to see what the trend looked like vs. other cars. The trend lines are mine, and not something inherent to BAT.

Every time I see one of these valuation requests for a similar car I used to own, it’s a small kick in the nutz….lol…

I had a beautiful ‘85 targa I sold for like $8500…..also had a turbo I traded on a Nissan….lol

I know, I know….we all did it and none of us knew….

Btw, I’m very happy for people that where smarter than me getting those types of $ today….

A lot of Canadians are trying to get US money for their classic cars but that seems hard to do if you are selling up here. I have wondered how many Americans are willing to import a car from Canada when there is a pretty good chance of finding one at home. Perhaps a dealer? I believe this could affect the number of bidders and the final selling price. Perhaps BAT results will indicate otherwise... I haven't looked. I sold my 356A a few years back on The Samba. I think it was priced reasonably. There were no serious US interests but a guy in France snapped it up. GLWS

Everybody wants easy and think it's hard to import a car from Canada. It isn't, but most people don't want to try.

I've imported a couple from the US and driven them back. I didn't have much choice as selection is very limited up here. Its not hard to do on your own if you don't mind making a trip out of it and have the time. Its even easier if you got the cash to hire someone to handle transportation and importation. I expect it might even be a bit easier going south.

My car is originally US car

I assume that makes registering there a simpler matter?

It’s over 25 years old, which is more important than where it was originally sold.

If you can demonstrate it was previously a US titled car, then the buyer doesn't have to pay duty at the border upon re-import. They just follow their state rules as far as registration and taxes due on an out of state purchase.
