Need Advice on Value of Factory 1989 Slant Nose Tub
Looking for some help on trying to attach a value to an original 1989 Factory 930S coupe. Depending on where you look, it's probably safe to say it's one of under 40. That's the good. The less good is that it was hit in the front or side (no tub damage) and has a salvage title. The passenger door replaced and unsure about the passenger fender.
It has original rear suspension and front A arms, but struts are a set of converted coil overs. Original brakes out back, big reds up front. Original gages (9k miles on the odometer), but that's about it on the inside. Also has the original wheel well oil cooler still in place. At one point the car was slated to become a 935 tribute and had a full cage welded in. For the most part, it's a stripped tub, with the goal of getting it back to being a roller, before selling. Too big and expensive of a project to take on, so looking for some thoughts on value. Also thoughts on selling with the cage still in it, or better to cut it out (most likely leaving the mounting plates welded in place)? + ![]() ![]() ![]()

Need more pictures of the cage to make a guess on if it adds value. I would think there is market interest in a factory G50 930 tub for a 934 or 935 style build….. but the cage would need to be very nice to add value I think.
Nice cages are really expensive, to duplicate the one I put in my car would be well over $10k today but simple ones are still only ~$3k or so and probably limit the potential pool of buyers too much seeing it as only a “race car” project and would be better to cut it out before sale. |

Meant ~40K U$ is what I would think now.
Many of the air duct sheet metal, gills, etc are NLA. |

$40K? How? The brakes are mismatched. The cage hurts the value.
The only way this tub has any real value is by restoring it back to original. That's going to be a lot of work. More if the interior is completely gutted. No original engine or transmission is a big problem too. For a race car build it being an Factory original slant-nose means nothing. Maybe $20K as it sits....

Agreed it'd take a lot to bring it back to stock, but even with mismatched engine and trans, what it's it, a $350k car? I have no idea. An all original is currently on Hemmings for $700k. I remember someone on here found out they had a '64 911 shell in their backyard. I'd think the scarcity would command a premium over a '65 - '68.
Agree that as a base for a race car or 935 tribute the value is probably lower, but for someone wanting to put 1 of 37 back on the road, does that add to the value? I know most of the value comes back in from the restoration process and tracking down year appropriate parts. However, I'd think you still need the original body to get that value, otherwise it's just a tribute car. I'll upload more pics tomorrow.

That car is all original and less than 38,000 miles. I would guess it would cost as much as that car sold for to restore this one properly AND you would need to track down the original engine and trans to get anywhere near that out of it. I bet the mileage is unknown too. I hope you get a lot for the roller....

The salvage title alone makes it not economically feasible to throw money at it.

Agreed. If it has a salvage title there's a good chance the tub may be bent. Now would be the time to put it on a Celette bench to at least ensure the tub is solid and straight.

Would a properly restored non-matching (+salvage title) but factory slant nose be something a collector would be interested? |

+1. Definitely put it on a Celette and properly document with photos.

Photos a day later than promised. I can't find any "wrinkled" sheet metal anywhere on the car, but the celette bench is a great idea. Any idea what I could expect to pay for that?
