Time to choose paint colour

My ‘72 911 project is progressing .. it’s become a full top to bottom restoration. Welding, paint, engine build, suspension, brakes etc etc. I’m not building a concourse car but a very clean, well restored with sport purpose upgrades.

The welding is all complete, I’m at the point where I need to decide on colour, originally light ivory but I prefer others .. tangerine, blue metallic & slate grey all contenders. How much does non original colour affect value?

if the car is non-original itself then the only concern that i would have if you ever were going to sell it is what custom color would likely sell faster and perhaps for more money. Out of the ones you listed tangerine and ivory followed by minerva blue? and slate grey from most desirable to least in my opinion. All great colors but the bright colors have proven to bring the money

I agree with above statement if the car is already non original. I would not necessarily say it needs to be a bright color. I would recommend any period correct color from the early 70’s.

Light Ivory is a color that looks like old tighty whities that the owner was too cheap to use bleach when seldom washing them (aka - a geezer color!).

Metallics are best. I’d stay away from flat paint if it were mine.

Any thoughts on gold metallic? I haven’t seen too many in that, but like the color a lot. Original on mine was sand beige, currently repainted ivory and I’m not a fan of either.

The “Project Gold” is a great color.

If it's white/light ivory, etc color ....it always looks like Maytag appliance on wheels!

Whatever color you like the best and can see yourself surrounded by.

I personally hate Glossy Primer. It’s a fad right now and it will not be desirable forever.
But I do like the metallic gold. Guy I follow on IG has a beautiful gold car.

I have a 69E in light ivory. Since you won't have to go original, I recommend tangerine orange. I had a 70S in original tangerine orange. We resprayed it same color -- Just *****in!

Since this already went OT, can I throw in a vote for Aubergine?

I like the gold above on the carrera. I saw “project gold” at Rennsport. I did not like the gold on the 993 turbo

A vote for blue metallic. On a hot rod changing the paint color from original has almost no impact, to answer your actual question.

Glossy primer? Do you mean greys that are similar to primer colors? I have not seen glossy primer per se

^^^

That gold looks like someone took a piss on the car a while after they had downed too many vitamins, and/or were severely dehydrated!

That’s the PTPS, Porsche recommends 10,000 mgs of vitamin C prior to sending in sample.
