The Porsche 928 market.....

Actual Porsche topic!

I’ve owned a number of 928’s in the past (S4, GT, S 5spd, etc) and always really enjoyed them . I sold my last one, 82 5sp, a number of years ago and didn’t see myself dipping that toe back in the pool.....but.....

I just picked up a 1986.5 928s with 36k original miles. It was an abandoned project that was partially covered. The interior, however, speaks to the mileage....currently not running...lol...I’m going through it now, starting with the removal of an old Python alarm...and I look forward to driving this Black Beast....

86.5 has the 32v motor, s4 big brakes and suspension...this one also has H4’s....

That being stated, what’s the current market on 928’s? I hear the OB’s are starting to bring money? Whatever happened to the Risky Business and Scar Face 928’s?

I recently sold my 86.5 928 with 96,000 miles for $19,000 which is about what I paid for it in 2016. Not exactly "investment grade" yet. Fun car, congrats on the find and good luck with the resurrection.

Nice score. Is it a 5spd? I believe they are on the up & up but maintenance costs can easily offset any investment if that's what your going for. My old man used to have a modded 82 Euro 5spd back in the day. Amazing car and one of best sounding V8s IMO. Sold it to Ivan Lendl's training partner in CT in mid 80s who ended up totaling it within 2 weeks.

Cool Matt. Great looking car. I bet you're glad to have another car to tinker on.

Thanks; I am not into this one for the investment value, but I also didn’t get into my 911’s for that either back in the day....It’s actually refreshing to look at 928 parts, no 911 TAX!

I had an 82 non-euro 5sp...it was fun. This one is an auto. I’ve had both, and I don’t mind the auto’s in the 928. Also, wouldn’t have gotten the deal I got if it were an 86.5 5 speed!

Fortunately I have past (nightmare) 928 experience working various electrical issues. Everything else was pretty straight forward....TB and basic mx....

Just remember...if you get divorced, you’ll lose half of the old cars but get to keep ALL of the young women.

Ha, Mine says the same thing along with, "If he's in the garage; I know where he's at and what he's doing."

In case you ever wondered about what happened to the Risky Business car (I was a pre-teen, and still remember Rebecca DeMornay in that sub-way scene)....

Risky Business 928

I'm no market expert, but I'm pretty sure I couldn't buy my 928 now for the price I paid in 2012. Overall, prices are rising, but there are wide variations depending on year and condition.

Does “commando” involve red gimp ball and leather zipper shorts with suspenders?

Decided to dive right in. I found the offending python alarm and **** bag relays....notice the drooping non-factory wires and **** bag splices.

Definitely! There is no reason that your former 912 riding gear will not look equally pimp in its new, motoring environment!

Ok...so much 928 love!

I so far have removed 1 aftermarket Python alarm, 1 factory alarm and an additional Alpine cur off switch that I can’t find any info on...replaced multiple fuses and relays..

Ok...it ain’t JDM....

But I got the Black Beast running! Had to work through the 3 alarm systems , cleaned the tank, new fuel pump and filter....

Started right up...

No smoke at all, has a slight miss, but over all the car is running...I was also able to test the tranny...forward....reverse ...work great....brakes work...power steering...all good...so far....

I need to tackle the general mx items now....

Now back to the JDM nipple thread!
