Possible Scammer Alert
I posted a WTB yesterday morning for a Bentley 993 Service Manual. In the afternoon I got a PM from Matt76, a new member, June 2023 with 6 posts. He referred me to "Bonnie" whose husband had passed and said he had bought "items" from her that were in perfect condition and provided a telephone number, 213.569.4341.
I texted "Bonnie" and she said she had exactly what I wanted in perfect condition for $275 shipped. I told her used they are around $150 and she asked if I would pay $130 shipped. I said I would and requested her PayPal information so I could pay. She then said she only accepts Zelle and does not have a PP account. I immediately felt this was fishy. She said she was 68 and I should just trust her and boo one would try to scam someone for only $130. I told her to check my history on Pelican and mail the manual and upon receipt I would immediately Zelle her the funds. She said "I am not here to argue with you no problem if you're not interested you can find someone to pick it up or send money order, cashier check." I passed and wished her good luck. This morning I get a message that she has now set up a PP account and wants to know if I am still interested. I am not. Buyer beware. This could all be legitimate, but I am unwilling to gamble. |
Did you put it in the scammers list thread? That’s where you’ll get most eyes and help protect people researching people.
|
If you post a WTB ad, be ready for scammers. Usually easy to spot. I take a perverse pleasure in dragging the "deal" out as long as possible and asking for more and more ridiculous terms, until I ultimately tell them that internet scamming causes cancer in their loved ones. I have had several come clean and apologize.

Ask them to send you a pic of the part with some identifying note, like their name on a piece of paper. You won’t hear from them again.

sorry for your loss Adam, and my flip comment.
this from a guy who had to put a bag over the head and smother his 13 y/o cat 20 or so years ago in the hallway of my house. at like 3 in the morning i was woke by lyttles howling, flopping and rolling in the hallway in agony doing number 1's n 2's while foaming at the mouth convulsing... longest 90 seconds of my life. left him where I buried him that night at my now sold bay area property. not a week goes by I don't think of that experience.... |
I had to euthanize my daughter’s favorite chicken last weekend. I never thought I’d lie to my kids, but I told her that she died in her sleep. Hardest part about this farm thing is killing animals, especially the ones who have become pets. We haven’t lost a cat or dog in a few years, but we are getting close in age for both our cats.

She was just really really old, but you're welcome to come visit her and her father's grave in the front yard.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1689300838.jpg Hi Adam- Dolemite is quite possibly the most awesome name ever. I can only assume he's now up in doggy Heaven with an all-girl army of Kung Fu Killers (and his own Queen Bee). Willie Green better watch out.
