suggestions on what to do before I sell my Viper green '73
I have a viper green 73, it's just one too many cars for me to own, maintain--and it's redundant to my Blucille- 72 hot rod.
When I bought it, narrow body 73, the original owner had used bed-liner on the rear license panel, it had the big ugly rubber '73 bumpers, and had a ducktail. I'm debating whether to sell it with the raw aluminum flat decklid, or reinstall the ducktail. My personal feeling is that a ducktail isn't the right look with a narrow body car. (I was planning on keeping the aluminum lid or the duck for another project) I've got some interior projects I will accomplish before I sell, replacing the tired carpet and cleaning up the headliner and such. It's a matter of how far should I go....I was planning on installing SSI's, the heat exchangers are ugly and rusted thru, but the primaries are all good. I was planning on new rear shocks, the koni's are ugly but work well. I was toying with the idea of swapping the black window trim to polished aluminum, but at this point, I think I'd leave that in the hands of the next owner. Thoughts? ![]() ![]() ![]()

What an conundrum? You have this and a '72 hot rod. Its a great life, isn't it.
I would offer it with the original bumpers, minus the bed liner. If you have the carpet, replace it. Offer it with the duck tail and use the shocks and SSIs as an extra cost option. If the aluminum deck was original the the car and all else is matching, i would offer it to the buyer allowing for its rarity. I would not touch the trim. They fit and can be polished without removal. Let that be the buyers "owner equity" to bond with their new purchase. They may even like the black |

I think it really depends where your trying to sell it. If it’s for BAT would spend more time on fixing everything to look the best that it can. If your selling on here or another enthusiast website I would sell as is so that the buyer can make it into there own and your not putting extra money into it.

I'm no expert but what stands out to me the most are the front bumper pads. Doesn't look right on a hot rod. I would also ditch all the extra lighting. Sometimes less is more.
Ditch the bed liner. It belongs on a pickup, not a Porsche. Another suggestion is to go on bat and see what's actually been sold. It will help to show you the "look" that is getting the best return for the money. Looks like a great car. GLWTS.

Nice aluminum decklids are like hen's teeth. I wouldn't sell that. Put the duck back on, especially since it's already the right color. Then get rid of all the black on the rear end, center panel and lower bumpers.
Leave the rubber bumperettes. That's a '73 only thing that it easily removed later by a buyer. But it's unique to that year, and the rest of the deco appears in all right shape. In a world of stripped lightweights with no deco at all, leaving it original looking will actually make the car stand out, imo.

Is the aluminum deck lid a repop, or original? If it's original it should be worth north of $3,000. I'm assuming the car is not an S though, so it's not original to the car?

Hey Lew
My thoughts Eliminate lower lights; Front and Rear Eliminate Bumperettes. Re-install Brightwork install flat lid painted Viper Get rid of all inappropriate Black paint viper. Put on 73 appropriate Fuchs. How is the motor? 2.4MFI or is this a 73.5? https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1973-porsche-911-s-coupe-35/

I would price it as-is and see what the market response is. Without an asking price, this is just a tea party.

In my experience, it rarely pays to put any money into a car like this. Leave the duck, put a price on the car, and if the buyer wants to make alterations, they can negotiate from this starting point.
