Missing a Title?
 

Hi All,

I've been a Pelican member for over 13 years and have had the pleasure of helping dozens of you obtain titles for your cars. If you purchased a car on a Bill of Sale, traded for it, lost the title, title was destroyed, you inherited it, or it never had a title, I can help. I can assist with procuring a title on any vehicle thru MY 1994. After nearly 100 vehicles, mostly Porsches, I've had success helping Porsche owners title their 356, 911, 912, 930, 934, 964 & 993 RS's. Prices range from $750 - $1500, depending on applicable taxes. References available upon request. I will, of course, require proof that you own the car.

303 is here in Colorado, but with portable cell numbers these days, could be anywhere.

I'm from Colorado but currently live in Austin. I'm back and forth every 4-5 weeks. As I understand it, the Vermont option is over and done with. I procure Texas and Colorado titles. Pricing is in my original post. Thank you sir.

Vermont works very well if the car or motorcycle is not worth much, which is rarely true for a Porsche. Everyone kept telling me to do VT so I did. A rusty, non-running C Coupe was going to cost me $8000 to get a title. VT charges 8% tax of NADA value of the car. When I explained the condition of the car they said I could truck it to the capital of VT, a several hour drive for me and they would evaluate it but could only lower it 20%.

I said nope.

VT used to work great (I personally did 3 motorcycles and two trailers with vt registrations) but as of June or July of this year, it’s now limited to only people with a vt drivers license or written proof of residency.

I'm taking mine into an OR DMV today. They match #'s and fill out paperwork. Then I send to CA and I get a replacement title. Fortunately I have old Registration paperwork. If you are in CA and the car is it would be one stop shopping. It would have been easier but CA deletes records after 15 years.

You can get an LLC in Montana which doesn't require residency or charge sales tax. The infield at Rennsport Reunion were filled with Porsche's with Montana tags. We even have several cars in the Chattanooga TN that are thusly registered.

You take a risk going the Montana route. If you get into a really bad accident the insurance company has an out to deny you. They insured you to drive the car, not a Montana LLC. By not disclosing this you give them a window.

As I am looking to the future as the 1971 911T coupe that I am building is getting closer to being roadworthy again. I am looking for a way to save on taxes. It is a shame to pay taxes on the car after I have paid taxes on all the parts. I don't understand the part about insuring the LLC and not the car. Georgia taxes are fairly egregious. I would run it by Hagerty first.

As the years go by, I appreciate Colorado more and more. We have a pretty straightforward bonded title process, even if it takes a bit of time. We pay taxes one time when we buy the car, only have smog through 1975, and on a collector car you can register it 6 years at a time. Yet, I still see a ton of Wyoming and Montana plates on local’s cars because the other states offer some financial advantages that I can’t be bothered to explore.

Does anyone knows how to retitle a car that had a rebuilt CA title (fender bender) back in the late 80s?

We pay Property Tax on cars in CT annually. I recently registered my 911 here, but as a classic. As such the assessed value is the depreciated value, or something. My recent tax bill for the 911 just showed up. $2.76!
