1978 911sc value ?

Hi,

I need some help pricing my 78 911sc, it is time to let the car go I have more important projects now and minimum time for the car, with this been said I'm not sure how to price the car for sale, the car is in good condition drives and runs good and registered in California,

in my opinion the biggest issue w/ the car is the paint (never decided what to do with the paint )

I hope that some can tell me how to price the car or where/how to start.
Thanks in advance!
Jose

We need a lot more information to give you a better idea of value. Mileage? Rebuild? Head studs? Mods? Issues?

That car looks like it has been around the block a few times, and a red fan is always a red flag.

More info and more pix. As it stands now, you could be anywhere from $35K and up, IMO. Some people want into the 911 world so badly they don't care about paint.

I have an interested serious buyer in Charlotte NC if you were willing to part with it at $35k

It would be his first 911 and this one checks the boxes. Let me know.

Thanks!

It’s got that pimp Motormeister engine in it.

juanbenae 05-06-2024 08:21 AM

how does it pass the visual CA state smog testing with no air pump?

Some details about the car:
1978 911sc Clean California title
Engine: # 6380167, Case# 930.101.104.4R
Engine was rebuilt 6 years ago by myself, I had to rebuild the engine one cylinder was an issue and I had oil leaks everywhere.
All machine work done by: Engine Machine Service 827 W. Olive Inglewood, CA. 90301
Crank, cylinder heads etc (receipt available)
All new engine parts ordered from EBS Racing including ARP hardware (rod bots and head studs)
Oil lines upgraded to Elephant Racing finned lines and Carrera style oil cooler
The front suspension has Rebel Racing RSR Bushings and replaced bolt joints and tie rods.
On the rear so far only shock absorbers were replaced, brakes were refreshed, many parts have been replaced, all the work done by myself (this is my personal car project)
The wheels are 7” on the front and rear are replicas 8” on Toyo tires (I have original 6” fuchs)
BTW, I do not know if the car is a matching #’s car,
Thanks
Jose

I don't think an SC with an engine rebuild and 104K miles would last a day in the classifieds.

jmrc 05-10-2024 04:39 PM

I have the smog pump and all parts

jmrc 05-10-2024 04:40 PM

Sorry for the late reply

Nice detail, that easily handles any questions about the red fan. You’ll still get people new to the hobby who are afraid of a 911 with a garage built engine. But advertised here, few will see it as a bad thing, given the culture, and Wayne’s books, etc.

Agree with Nick. It wouldn’t last a day at $40k. I’d list it between $45-50k and it will still likely be an easy sale with little quibbling or discount.

I tried my best :D and Jose was very fair/cooperate with us (dropped off the car for a PPI) and met with my cousin (now the new owner).

This car is his first air-cooled and it's a perfect driver that he will give the TLC and enjoy.

I'm working on helping a local buddy find his first as well. I enjoy it!

Love it when members look out for each other!

Matt Monson 07-18-2024 01:51 PM

Good ending.

It would be helpful to the forum generally if you guys disclosed the deal price.

ItzaMe 07-27-2024 06:24 PM

$36k

PPI checked out on the mechanicals but some other issues needed addressed.

After the PPI, flight to see the car in person, shipping it to the east coast and of course tax, it was a decent deal for a driver coupe needing a little love.
