Is it crazy not to sell a 356 on BAT?
I am going to be selling my 356 as the weather improves where I live. We are hopefully starting to exit winter. It's a pretty original 64C in the ubiquitous white/black combo. A needs nothing car with a built 1750 B Super 90 in it and the rebuilt numbers matching motor on my shelf. I've had it about 5 years and know the history and owners back to 1969. One repaint with some rust typical CA car rust repair (read fairly minor) in the mid 2000s that has held up well. CA black plate car pretty much in the Sunnyvale area its whole life before me. I'd call it very good driver quality. Excellent mechanicals.
Anyway, to my real question. Does anyone have success selling outside of BAT these days or should I just suck it up and list it there when the time comes? The registry is super quiet. Not many 356s listed on the Pelican classified. It seems sort of like BAT is the market. At the West Coast Holiday in 2022 ![]()

Cars and bids only does cars from 80s and newer. I've had good luck here on Pelican and PCA Classifieds. Plenty of dealers looking on both, but plenty of non-dealers as well.

I sold a Ferrari 360 on bringatrailer and was very pleased. I opted for the photographer and she was fantastic. She was local to me, I think most a freelance, She knew a few places, was receptive to my location and a couple of shots. She took over 150 high resolution photos that were used in the sale. There is a sales concierge, or coach if you will, who guided me through the script and it came out fantastic. There was a lot of comments during the sale that complimented the car and it helped the sale I’m sure. all in all a great experience and I would do it again in a New York minute. I paid $299 and no sales fee if I recall correctly.

You'll likely get the top price on BaT but be prepared to be bombarded with nitpicks about every detail that isn't factory correct on your car. The 356 community is very active on BaT and keen to flex their knowledge.

4 years ago, I tried to sell my '69 911 Coupe on BAT....They really beat me up on the reserve and refused to list if I had tried to sell it previously (I had not)....So I put it on Pelican and sold in 5 days.
Fast forward to last year when I sold a very origional/low mile Internation Scout and a 1973 Kawasaki Z1 on BAT....I found them much easier to deal with this time. More reasonable on a reserve and they allow previous sale attempts if you take them down. I got good money for both and made a profit of $33,000 between the two......
