There is a local black/black '87 coupe that may be available later this year, but it will be in the low $80s.
My friend sold his meticulously restored 84 cab for $210k FYI.

Everything air cooled 911 has gone insane or irrational. Mid-year 911's that were unloved years ago are just crazy priced now. Best bang for buck today are the earlier Boxsters and Caymans.

Meticulously restored has more to do with that price than cab or coupe. Top of the market is double or triple what one of us more pedestrian owners would ever pay.

They don't get any finer. An amazing example in its original unique color bare metal restoration right down to every nut bolt and screw in the correct color and proper hardware manufacturer. Nothing was overlooked. I agree it sounds crazy but it was clearly worth it to the right buyer. My friend doesn't replace parts like most shop but meticulously restores everything.

Might be worth doing a search at classic.com - they aggregate listings by make/model from all over the place, by dealers, private sellers, etc. There are 69 1984-1989 911s listed as I write this. It's where I found my 88 coupe a couple years ago, on consignment at a classic car dealer only 80 miles away, yet never came across the listing until I saw it there.

I'll second checking the PCA mart regularly, as well as the classifieds here (don't forget to check the dealer classifieds as well).

Otherwise, be patient and and keep checking; the right one will come along eventually.

Thanks, Audi! I hadn’t heard of classic.com—it’s on my open browser tabs now. Hit me up if you decide to get rid of that ‘88..

Cheers!

Got an '88 commemorative edition coupe. Currently on hold for a distant customer, but may become available.

Thanks, everyone for the advice and tips. Today I purchased an absolutely stunning 86 coupe in White Gold Metallic, thanks to the classifieds here on Pelican (and from my home state of NC to boot). If any of y’all are in WNC let me know and let’s go for a ride and or grab a beer…

Thanks, Pelican community!

Cheers!

Looks like you did well with that one, congrats! Always liked white gold metallic; an understated, classy color.

Thanks, Matt! Here are a few, sorry for the delay.. More, in nicer weather after I get it back from the shop. Had a nice 140 mile drive home, but it hasn’t wanted to start since..

It’s an absolute beaut! Paint respray a couple of years ago was done really well, and it was only driven 700 miles in the last 11 years, so not even a single rock chip on the front…which will probably change pretty soon, as this will be a well-loved and used daily driver going forward around the hills of Western NC…

^^^I saw that and started drooling. Lovely car.

You have been educated about lifting the throttle mid corner? If not, read up.

CONGRATS!!!
