Values of 914's - comments
 

I know this is much more of a 911 crowd, but any comments on what is happening with the 914 marketplace? I've rebuilt this car from the ground up and have less than $6k into it. It could use some real power which means real money. I think I'll just use it as a driver for a year or two and assess what to do at that point. In the meantime it is a blast to drive and gets noticed more than my 911 Cab.

They made several hundred thousand 914s, so the values will never be that great - although a large number of them have disappeared because of neglect. I think that 914s have been holding value, with really good cars demaning a premium (really, really, really good cars). I know of a 1.7 with low miles that sold for $15K or so. A really good 2.0L car in near concours condition, usually fetches about $8K or so...

I think people are starting to realize how nice these little cars are and the prices are beginning to reflect it. The original -6's are getting pretty expensive. Even conversions are getting decent coin.

I am doing exactly what you said Vance. I'm going to beat around in my stock teener for a couple of years, then depending on market values, maybe do a -6 conversion. Beautiful car, by the way.

I just purchased a 914 with a 3.2 conversion for street and track use after owning a stock 2.0 911E for almost five years.

I love my 911E. But when I put my right foot down in my 914...:D :D :D

Exterior is very nice, but the "hellhole" is just that.... NOT a "concours" car by any means!

There's another one that seems to have been restored very nicely listed on the For Sale forum here. The guy's website (posted there also) is:

This one isn't very "original," but is really, really nice looking. Even so, I think a buyer for $13K would be pretty rare.

BTW, I think this forum is a GREAT idea.... Any thoughts about compiling actual sales reports, a la "Excellence," and the PML? I see SO many cars advertised at prices that are, well, very OPTIMISTIC....or at least I hope they are! I suffer from being a bit of a bargain hunter, which has caused me to pass on several cars that I really should have purchased when I had a chance.

I guess your definition of a concours 914 and mine are a bit different. This one sold by Glenn looks like it would be able to compete in local PCA concours events, which is what I meant.

Understood. You're probably right--"Concours" is probably a pretty vague term and I'm certainly not an expert! My idea of a "concours" car, admittedly pretty subjective would be one that was in near-perfect mechanical and cosmetic condition--something more like the example currently listed on the "For Sale" board.

I've had a passing interest in picking up a nice 914 over the past six months or so and have looked at ads for a lot of them. One that comes to mind was a very pristine, original '73 that the owner was asking $18K for. There was a super-nice car in Palo Alto, also a '73 2.0 with very low miles that was offered at around $10K. I think if Glenn's car sold for $8K, that would leave enough to get the mechanicals back to "concours" ;-) condition.

I sold my 914 Limited Edition (BUMBLEBEE) 1974 with a 2.0 L engine on e-bay last year...and got a very top dollars price...Sold for 13600 u.s. $
