Price Check
Guys, looking at a project car wanted to get your thoughts.
- 77 S with steel SC fenders and rear spoiler - Appears rust free, but have not put up on a lift yet. Examined with a jack and all the suspension points are clean - Paint is bad, there is some surface rust where paint has chipped off - no history on engine, but it runs OK and no major leaks - Tranny is poor and needs rebuilt - Interior is complete, but rough My plan is to build a track car and am looking for a solid body first. Have assembled drivetrain and suspension components already. I think I just need some elbow grease and time. Will be parting off most of the car including engine and tranny. I'm thinking 4500-5000, is this too much? |
No, sounds OK for what you described. Make sure that rust in only on the surface. In most cases it's not.

yes...I have had what I thought was just surface rust as well...ends up being a bondo ball. Spend the time making sure ahead of time its what you think it is. Also price parts you know the car needs currently and the "what if-s"..things that are likely to have probelms. Weigh the price option (including shipping for body panels)... A good tub/ rollin chassis is easy to find for a few thousand, but what you are looking at seems like a good price. FYI I have a chassis for sale for more than what you are lookin at but with a 993/GT2, heres a quick pic. Good luck..make sure and keep us posted on a new car if you get one!

Thanks for the note. Your car looks like it will be nice when someone finishes it. I'm thinking of a race car project, but want to keep in it in stock classes.
I've got a couple of options I'm considering it is all the contingency issues that make the decision more difficult. Will I need to replae this, if I sell this what can I get. The list goes on for ever. Thanks! |
To me even $5K sounds like too much for the condition you describe.
