'70 S For $72,500???

Do you think that these guys really sold this car for $72,500?

http://www.autosportdesigns.com/Sales/Salesphotos.aspx?ID=1143

That's ridiculous money.

No. File away those pictures and keep a watch on the internet and I bet you that it will reappear in a few months.

This is an exceptional example of what is reported to be a one-owner from new example. This 911 has been a California car until only recently when it was purchased by a well-known collector here on the East Coast.
So for $72K they didn't check the history? Between the CA owner and the "East Coast Collector" I count two owners, but that's just symantics. I suspect that the asking price and the "SOLD" are intended to pump up the market and get everyone talking about how the values of early S's are going through the roof. All the better if you're in the business of selling S's.

I suspect that if it did sell, it sold for less then $70K. But then I don't have any facts on that, just my biased opinion.

We had one dowh here in So Cal that the owner wanted $80K for. It was a pristine black coupe, but had left the factory painted Sepia(!)

I understood it did sell fairly close to the asking price.

Non original bumper, and a new style hood emblem...I would suspect the repaint wasn't done because the original was bad. Oh well, I'm not looking to buy...Seems to me there is a whole lot of early car hype going on...

Eh, it probably sold for close to that price. Dealers like to sell cars - not put rumours into the market. There's a lot of crazy money chasing not too many assets these days - you see it in real estate, cars, and art. We'll see what happens next year...

Cough cough ummmmm these guys typically ask the moon for cars (like a couple of others) and I wonder what they really get. 2/3rds maybe, if a brainless rich client comes in?? It seems there are some dealers who are tyring to artificially raise the value (or price) of these cars. Others have pointed out the shortcommings of this car which make the asking price a bit of a joke.

Cheers

I just noticed that they're in a rather "affluent" area, Huntington LI. I'm from New England, so I won't comment on the cultural aspects of the rich in LI.

No offense intended. My wife's from Ronkonkoma, and my brother in law lives closer in to the city. There are a lot of great things on LI -- Wine from the North Fork especially, in fact the entire North Fork in general.

You have to admit that many of the more well-to-do on LI give "Neuvou Rich" a bad reputation. But then every region has their "Wives of Orange County".

I agree.
I grew up in Smithtown LI but would not moveback due to the traffic, taxes and housing prices.

It was nice living 9 miles from the Sound to go sailing.

HAHA... I took no offense to it whatsoever. I know there are more than enough "big shots" all too eager to grossly overpay just because they can or don't realize they are.
