Real 73 RS?

Can anyone suggest the best way to authenticate if a car is a real RS?

Hi,
I'm guessing you'd need the VIN number. Other critical numbers to look at and compare would be the engine & transmission numbers. Get in touch w/ Porsche Cars of North America requesting a certificate of authencity (~$120.00) based on the VIN number and title.

Anyone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sincerely,
Brent

You'd need more than that...VIN numbers can, and have been, tampered with...

If I were close to a deal on a $150k car, I'd buy a plane ticket and lodging for one of the experts from the S Registry and here to authenticate it before the seller would see a dime.

edit: insert "beer" after plane ticket.

There is an "expert" there, admired by some, who I wouldn't trust any further than I could toss one of his cars. Read my previous post to get a clue why...

Hi,
This brings up a question. Not that I mean to hi-jack this thread, but my 70 911T is missing the VIN plate when the front pan was replaced. Do you know of any service that can recreate the VIN plate if I provide the correct VIN number?

Sincerely,
BRent

Point taken, Paul. I have another expert in mind.

JV44HeinzBar 07-31-2006 06:25 AM

Interesting link PWD.

In my case, my car has the VIN on the inside pillar of the driver's side. What I'm looking to do is get a replacement VIN plate for my 1970 911T.

Is there a service out there that may be able to produce this plate if I provide the appropriate documentation?

Sincerely,
Brent

Possibly a dealership...if you can provide proof of ownership...you might ask at one what is required. The state you live in may also have to be involved.

jmz 08-01-2006 06:24 PM

dealership will do it for you. at least they told me they would a few yrs back

JV44HeinzBar 08-01-2006 07:26 PM

Hey Guys,
I tried calling a couple of dealerships in the Maryland area. Of course, none of them had a clue what I was talking about. Any suggestions JMZ?

TIA,
Brent

jmz 08-01-2006 08:01 PM

were you dealing with the parts dept? that is who you need to be talking with.

JV44HeinzBar 08-02-2006 04:24 PM

Hey JMZ,
I tried speaking to the parts folks at a couple of the dealerships. I guess I should of spoken to the service manager. I've got a couple more I can try. Seems to me that there should be a way to replace VIN plates though.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Sincerely,
Brent

A last resort, you might write the factory. I said write, not email. Include photocopies of proof of ownership, a letter explaining what you want, pics of the car, the missing piece, the door jam decal, etc. After all that, they might answer...perhaps with a solution...

Brent,

Contact Dave Aase at sales@************** He has replacement aluminum VIN tags for sale. I'm not sure where you can get it stamped but maybe someone on the Early S site does.

JV44HeinzBar 08-04-2006 04:15 AM

Thanks Fryardds. At least it's a start. I'm guessing that these replacement tags match the original plates in size and shape? I never thought I'd be trying to find someone to emboss a VIN plate :) The early Pcar adventures have just started for me I guess.. LOL

Sincerely,
Brent

Brent,

Yes it will look very close if not identical but be sure to mention the year of your 911. If you're curious you can have him email you a photo of what the plate looks like.

When you get it contact International Merchantile. I think they can stamp it for you. The numbers may not match exactly but it should be close.

Then there is the question of the correct rivets (see how this goes:D ). I am not sure about those but I will look around.

JV44HeinzBar 08-04-2006 01:26 PM

Thanks again fryardds. I'll be sure to give these folks a call after I email Mr. Aase. As for the rivets, I think I can do some creative engineering to figure that one out.

Now, does anyone out there have a photo of their VIN plate for 1970 911T that I can use as an example? Please be sure to block out your serial number if you decide to help me out.

Sincerely,
Brent

This is what a '70 T (E and S also) VIN tag looks like. The replacement ones may or may not have the type '911 T' and 'C' embosed like the original. Those boxes maybe be empty and need to be stamped in.
