I've seen them sell for between $18k and $27K. Some of that is ebay so it's hard to know if the final deal was consumated. The only thing keeping the price up is the fact that they made only 3,000 of them.

That black car doesn't even appear to be a six conversion - just a '74 2L. Looks like a nice car but not worth anywhere near $17K - wrong wheels, wrong side mirrors, filthy engine, tired seats, etc.

Anything over 25K is too much money for a mint condition original 914-6. However, in the Porsche market, the seller always knows they will find 'someone' that wants their car that is willing to bring big $$ to the table. Your best bet is to find someone that is in a hurry to sell the vehicle, ie. someone who is going through a divorce or wants something else that is much more expensive...I've purchased a couple Porsches this way which worked out quite well for me! Otherwise, the seller is just going to play the waiting game until they are offered the number they want.
If you want the "original mint" 914-6 now, expect to be on the high side of 25k. If you can hold out, try to keep it between 20-25k. Since they are becoming more and more rare, these vehicles are going up in price pretty rapidly. If I had to take a guess at volume, I'd have to say there are probably around 800-900 left in the US with a very small percentage of them in "mint" condition.
